As we prepared to post today we realized how pathetically bad almost all the news is and we looked for some light to blend into our comments. The Trump administration is totally corrupt. Every American knows that but 34% of us won’t admit it. In normal times–with a midterm election coming up–that would be enough to right the ship. Losers would be scuttled and ethical prudent judgement prevail. But, these are not normal times and the threat of Trump controlling the vote count is a certainty. Think about it. He has irritated almost all major voting blocs, raised the cost of living, started a war he said he wouldn’t start, hidden the Epstein files, appointed totally unethical and incompetent men into key Cabinet posts, wasted money on frivolous gold gilding, ballroom, arch, and other unnecessary use of taxpayer money. All the while he has taken food off the table of several million lower income households, made Medicaid coverage almost unattainable and eliminated ObamaCare subsidies to fund a huge tax reduction for his billionaire buddies. He has championed a thug slush fund for Jan 6 rioters who assaulted the Capitol police–calling them heroes. No one–and we mean–no one can defend this and all the other disgustingly offensive actions he has taken in the first 18 months of this term. The 34% who still say they support him are either too stupid or too proud to admit mistakes. No sane human being can possibly accept him as anything but a travesty, a clown, a thief and a narcist. With that history the upcoming election should be a “slam dunk” but my money is on the GOP maintaining its majority in Congress.
So, to balance this bleak picture and set the standard for what America has always considered its national profile, we offer the following quote from James Baldwin:

This is standard behavior pre-Trump and it may again be the standard post-Trump. But as of today, we have an America that hates all immigrants, is heavily armed, cannot hold perpetrators accountable and deprives the less fortunate of the basic necessities of life. We ask that the visitor to this blog keep in mind what we stood for when we looked in that mirror and what the world has witnessed in the last 18 months.
We will now observe, comment and speculate on specific issues of the day.
EPSTEIN–EPSTEIN–EPSTEIN
An eerie silence has obscured any and all progress on the release of the remaining Epstein files and the unredaction of all files–a clear violation of the Epstein Files Transparency Act, passed last year. The Attorney General position (Bondi and Blanche) has been violating the law openly without any accountability. They, in fact, have revealed victims’ information (name, addresses, phone numbers, and E mail addresses AND PICTURES) BUT REDACTED THE NAMES OF THE PERPS WHO ABUSED THEM. This isn’t justice. This is a strategic intimidation of child predation situations to protect the rich arrogant and above the law people who support Trump. Anyone who disagrees with that assessment is just fooling themselves. Nobody is that stupid. Where is Massie? He was championing the charge until he lost his primary and Mitch McConnell disappeared. It seems like Massie wants back in and will need the Kentucky GOP machine to run again. So, he seems to have bowed out. He has put self-interest over country. And, in our view, disqualified himself from any public office. The irony of all this is that these files must show what Trump cannot allow because he knows they are the silver bullet. Everything else pales if he is identified as an Epstein client. We suggest that his abuse victim (or anyone listed in the files as a victim) accuse Trump of sexual abuse. On discovery, the court will REQUIRE full unredacted Epstein file and video disclosure. Then we’ll know who’s hiding in those files.
WHY THE IRAN WAR?
We’ve been asked for our position on the reasoning here. It’s simple. Despite “obliterating” all of Iran’s nuclear stockpiles in June, 2025, Trump used the nuclear weapon excuse to attack Iran. He did so because he made a deal with Netanyahu of Israel. Israel cannot fight Iran and Hamas at the same time. So Trump offered to help by bombing Iran in exchange for allowing Trump real estate to develop the Gaza as a Mediterranean resort. If you disagree, google KUSHNER, GAZA, RESORT. You’ll find that the architect’s rendering has already been reviewed. In other words, Trump is spending American lives and our tax money to acquire real estate from Israel. When you see that you understand why Netanyahu has said that he will not abide by any Trump-Iran peace deal unless he approves it. As of today, since neither side trusts the other, it will get uglier and a longer “excursion” will result. All parties know they are all liars so there is no honor or peace among thieves.
PRESIDENTIAL GRIFTING
This has–even by Trumpian standards–gotten way out of control. We knew his kids were using the Office of the President to swing lucrative deals with foreign countries. But recent revelations show that Trump is providing information about awarding government contracts TO HIS FINANCIAL BACKERS PRIOR TO THE PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS. This leads to Trump and others buying large amounts of stock right before the news hits the street. Even more reprehensible is the open selling of information to hedge fund managers for $100,000/month so they can enrich themselves even further. Trump isn’t hiding any of this. He’s like a kid who tries everything to see how far he can push his luck with his parents. The tragedy is that NO ONE SEEMS TO BE ABLE TO STOP HIM. The Head of the Securities and Exchange Commission is a Trump appointee. So we know he is worthless as a judge. The Supreme Court gave him immunity from any acts that he carries out as the president of the United States. But it is impossible to see how violating the “emoluments clause” of the US Constitution is within his job duties. If it is–then he can violate EVERY CLAUSE OF THE CONSTITUTION USING THE VIOLATION OF THE EMOLUMENTS CLAUSE AS PRECEDENT. Question: why do the Dems not try to impeach him? We know the impotent GOP majority won’t go along but then the Dems can use that in their campaigns. They can tell the home state voters “this GOP candidate who wants your vote supports the grifting of the president–is that what you want in a representative?”
IMMIGRANT STATUS
Haitians have been told to go home. But home is a violent scene with gangs, unstable government and poor economic conditions. They have been fitted with ankle monitors for the time when Trump decides to trade their safety for whatever he can get from Haiti. (BTW, HAITI IS ON OUR “DO NOT VISIT” LIST.) When you remember that Trump is a dealer it is simple to see how he plans his next move. Examples: he kidnapped Maduro from Venezuela and bombed defenseless fishing boats (killing 128 people) so that he could starve Cuba for oil and bring them to their knees. He also was able to get his hands on $13 billion of Venezuelan oil money that has seemingly disappeared. As mentioned previously, he bombed Iran to get Gaza land rights. He threatened Greenland to get their rare earth minerals. He abandoned Ukraine to help his buddy Putin regain Ukraine while trying to negotiate a deal to split Ukraine’s rare earth minerals. (So far, that hasn’t worked out.) So, expect Trump to want something from Haiti. Meanwhile, 60,000+ immigrants (here legally and 94% criminal record free) along with 1,500 children are being held in detention (concentration) camps with little hope of resolving their eventual placement. Just another Trump mess. We can’t afford to move them or to keep them long term. They are ill-housed, ill-fed, and receive little or no medical care. Remember the “love” quote above?
MIDTERM ELECTIONS
Trump knows that losing the House of Representatives and the Senate will lead to impeachment. Depending on the number of DEM/GOP members in Congress after November, he is sure to be removed from office. At that point, the legal system will kick into high gear and his illegal actions will be fully prosecuted. He knows this so he has no choice but to control the vote count. After gerrymandering and challenging mail in voting, he has several angles. First, he can try to throw ad money to GOPers and against Dem candidates. Second, he can try to salt the election process with local GOP-friendly officials. Third, he can file suit if specific state election results do somehow slip through his grasp. This will delay seating Dem winners as the suits clear the court with re-counts, audits and other empty charges of impropriety. Fourth, he can encourage red state GOP Secretaries of State not to certify the Dem winner–again throwing the mechanism into a court and further delaying the seating of the Dem winner. Fifth, he can claim the manner in which each state processed the vote was tainted–another court action. And there are other methods to be employed. The problem is: the US Supreme Court seems to re-make rules for Trump using its conservative majority. It leads us to wonder whether some of the justices might be targets of Trump blackmailing over the Epstein files. Why else would justices lie when vetted, overturn long time precedents like Roe v. Wade, allow Trump more power when they know him to be unethical, etc. Let’s hope the Dems are ready for whatever the GOP tries to employ. Remember, the offense always has a slight edge over the defense because they know what’s coming.
TRUMP ADMINISTRATION INCOMPETENCE
This is a tough post because there are so many examples. (1) TAYLOR FARMS: we choose this because it’s a perfect example fo both incompetence and grifting. Taylor farms has a history of product recalls. No less than 6 major recalls in the past 14 years. All have been linked to serious health consequences. Their products are linked to listeria and E. coli. During the Biden Administration a FOOD TRACEABILITY RULE was passed by the FDA. This rule was intended to protect consumers from contaminated food products. The rule was to have become effective in 2025. HOWEVER, IN OCTOBER, 2024, TAYLOR FARMS ANNOUNCED A RECALL THAT WAS LINKED TO AN E. COLI OUTBREAK. OVER 100 PEOPLE WERE IMPACTED AND ONE DIED. IN MARCH, 2025, TAYLOR FARMS CONTRIBUTED $1 MILLION TO THE MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, INC. PAC LESS THAN A WEEK AFTER THE FDA ANNOUNCED IT WAS DELAYING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE FOOD TRACEABILITY RULE. Taylor Farms bribed and Trump accepted the bribe to ignore what sickened over 100 citizens and killed one. THE FOOD TRACEABILITY RULE WILL NOW BE IMPLEMENTED IN 2028. The current cyclosporiasis outbreak is probably linked to Taylor Farms but we’re sure that fact will be hidden after the next check hits the Trump account. (2) The Reflecting Pool debacle: Trump put blue in the pool causing algae build up. He blamed saboteurs for the disaster and arrested 17 people. Jean Pirro, DC’s top prosecutor, went on record saying she had irrefutable evidence of sabotage. ALL LIES. The former Olympian that was charged didn’t even face court. His indictment was thrown out for lack of evidence. Question: what happened to the other 16 people? (3) The worst measles outbreak in this country for decades has finally forced RFK Jr. to recommend measles vaccination. No evidence of causing autism was ever presented because it doesn’t cause autism. RFK Jr. is a fool, just another Trump sycophant who shouldn’t be in any leadership role anywhere. (4) Indictments against James Comey (former FBI Director) have been quashed for lack of evidence. (5) Trump uses copyrighted music in various ads without permission. Two performers have filed suit. (6) Secretary of Defense (War???) Hegseth wants to inject testosterone in all male military personnel over the age of 30. Apart from the medical issues that brings into play, cost is a major factor. And medical experts say it won’t produce the results Hegseth predicts. (8) Canadian tariffs will increase to 50% on August 19. Trump says we’re being treated unfairly but that usually means that he’s not getting everything he wants and giving nothing back. He first justified the additional tariff because of the air pollution resulting from Canadian wildfires. We guess he dropped that because he doesn’t care about pollution at all. That’s why he favor fossil fuels and eliminates wind and solar power. (9) Recently, his staff outlined the map of Africa for a multi-country presentation of some sort. His map showed all countries mis-identified. We could go on. The point is: NO ONE IN THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION HAS A CLUE ABOUT THE DUTIES OF THEIR ROLE. IT’S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL MAJOR PROBLEMS DEVELOP AND LIVES ARE LOST.
MINNESOTA: TARGET OF BOTH IRAN AND WASHINGTON DC???
Last week the Minnesota water supply was apparently attacked by a cybersecurity agent. The investigation is on-going but Trump was quick to state that it was the incompetence of the State Governor, Tim Walz (Democrat and former running mate of Kamala Harris) that caused the water problem. Now that experts have taken a look into the real world situation their first reaction is that this attack has all the “earmarks” of Iranian terrorism. So, was Trump trying to use the water issue to demean Walz or was he trying to excuse his own FBI, or National Intelligence Agency from preventing what could have been a catastrophic event? How close did we come to killing thousands of Minnesotans? Six other states also reported similar attacks at the same time. What was our Federal Government doing to prevent it? What are they doing now to prevent a recurrence? Hint: The new Director of National Intelligence HAS NO APPROPRIATE EXPERIENCE, TRAINING OR QUALIFICATIONS FOR HIS JOB. HE COULDN’T OR WOULDN’T EVEN ANSWER THE QUESTION “WHO WON THE 2020 ELECTION?” HE’S A PURE SUCK UP. SO TRUMP HAS AGAIN CREATED THE PERFECT STORM. HE’S TICKED OFF IRAN, THE WORLD’S LEADER IN TERRORISM WITH OVER 500,000 NATIONAL IRANIANS IN THE US; AND PUT A COMPLETELY UNQUALIFIED INDIVIDUAL IN CHARGE OF OUR DEFENSE. WHAT COULD GO WRONG?
TARIFFS: THE PRESIDENT’S CASH COW
Trump has announced that he wants to place a significant tariff on ANY COUNTRY THAT BUYS OIL OR GAS FROM RUSSIA. This accomplishes two goals: (1) it maximizes income for his US oil buddies because the world’s oil sources (think supply) shrinks, thereby raising US oil reserves and prices; and (2) it gives Trump an excuse to fill up his coffers with more tariff money to buy more ICE, reward thugs for assaulting police, deporting legal immigrants, building a ballroom and arch, etc. And, while we’re talking tariffs, did you notice that Trump used the return of his illegal tariff money ($166 billion) to buy political favors? Please understand that the ultimate consumer, YOU AND ME, paid the tariffs when we bought products. Companies simply passed those costs on to us. But Trump wants to politicize the returns so WE get screwed. Only Amazon seems to see this and has announced that it is distributing its share of the tariff money apparently through lower prices. We’ll see.
MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL: MONEY IS TALKING AGAIN
If you’re a regular visitor to this blog you know that we have complained about the state of major league baseball. Money has completely taken over all aspects of the game. That’s not a surprise but what is a surprise is the lack of competence in the Commissioners Office. Spoiler alert: the Dodgers will win every World Championship from now on unless Carlos Beltran teaches other teams how to steal signs or Alex Rodriguez distributes massive amounts of PED’s to other teams. The Dodgers have the best players at every position. They dominated the first half of the season. They lead their division by 9 games–biggest lead in any division. They dominated the All-Star game. And this week they picked up the pitcher who has won the last two Cy Young Awards in the American League, Tarik Skubal. When the Cincinnati Reds traded for a dominating pitched in the 1970’s Bowie Kuhn, then the Commissioner of Baseball, said “No, the Reds would be too dominant”. He vetoed the deal and all the other teams agreed. Fast forward to today, the Dodgers dominate in all categories and are the Vegas odds-on favorite to win the World Series again this year as repeating champs…where is the outrage? Well, it’s starting to come from other teams. But the Commissioner, Rob Manfred, is silent. And therein lies the rub. Small market teams dominating big market teams is bad for baseball ticket and advertising sales. So, money talks and says “it’s ok for the LA Dodgers to win every year because they have a huge following.” Long range, it’s our opinion that soon enough fans will begin to turn off to baseball because no team will ever be able to match the funding the Dodgers are building. And to drive the point further, the owners are trying to talk the Players union into lower salaries so they can maximize their income in the short run. Just another grab-for-greed sake move by the super wealthy. We will not attend or watch any Major League game until the field is levelled and small market teams are once again able to compete with a reasonable chance to win. That’s not the situation now.
The second MLB comment has to do with the recent announcement of the new members of the Baseball Hall of Fame (Shame?). First, Carlos Beltran was elected to the HOF. He s famously known for stealing signs in the World Series that enabled his team, the Houston Astros, to become world champs (chumps??). Second, Alex Rodriguez was on the ballot again. This player not only admitted his use of performance enhancing drugs but also bragged that he connected several other players to his source for those drugs. In other words, all of his stats and all of their stats are tainted–but the HOF Committee overlooked that flaw. And third, Pete Rose comments were nowhere to be seen or heard. The man who bet on baseball can’t catch a break (pun intended). Summary, we have a cheat and a drug lord elected and eligible for HOF membership from big market communities but a player who holds almost all offensive stats records is shunned–Cincinnati, a small market. Do you see why we are disgusted with baseball and why money makes it all ok. The message to fans of all ages: sin all you want, break any rule you choose, contaminate the sport by spreading drugs–it’s OK if you played in a big market. But woe to the player who earned all his stats without drugs and gambled while playing for a small market.
