Recently we all began to shudder when the Omicron variant came to light. The verdict is still out on whether this new strain will kill us all or just be a passing nuisance. But the Biden approach to controlling the Delta variant and its increasing hold on us is poorly positioned. The president, probably bowing to his dropping poll numbers, announced that his winter plans do not include lockdowns and home schooling. We still don’t know what Omicron is all about and we still have rising hospitalization rates in over 30 states. Add to that the holiday gatherings of family, concerts, travel and all the in person shopping over this month and you have all the trappings of a perfect storm. The president should have said “I am not imposing lockdowns and home schooling today but I will not hesitate to implement those changes in January if COVID cases continue to rise. I strongly recommend vaccinations in December. Otherwise you could lose your job and cause your co-workers to lose their jobs as well–just as the Christmas bills come due. Do you want to be responsible for your business to shut down? Do you want to abandon in person learning for your kids? The last time we offered economic help in the form of several stimulus programs. This time I cannot promise that kind of help. It is up to you, American citizen, to do what makes sense to preserve your welfare and the welfare of those around you. GET VACCINATED, WEAR MASKS, SOCIALLY DISTANCE. Anything less that these reasonable health rules could cost you and your family dearly. Let’s all work smart and in a unified way to beat this COVID threat.”
