We’re going to offend a lot of people with our view. People are either male or female. Whether you believe that is the Divine Plan, an evolutionary accident, alien planting or some other starting point…it is undeniable that we are male or female. Now some of us are saying we “feel” that we were assigned the wrong gender at birth. Some people, at varying stages in their life, think they prefer to live as if they are members of the other sex. We call them “gays” now but for years they were called by various foul terms to spotlight their incorrectly judged inferiority…they were ridiculed for their “differences”. Today the world is beginning to understand and accept “gayness”. We believe that physical chromosomal differences determine the so-called “straight vs. gay” attitude. As such, people do not choose to be either. They simply are as a consequence of their birth. And if you’re a Christian, you know that God doesn’t make mistakes so if a gay perspective is OK with God—it should be OK with us. Even if you’re not Christian, simple human respect for another human being should compel you to accept a lifestyle different from yours. Now however we enter the world of “transgender”. It is far different from “gayness”. A gay person lives his/her life realizing and accepting the difference between themselves and someone who is “straight”. Acceptance by both lifestyles of the other is essential. But going a step further and tampering with the body you were given is inappropriate. We could call it a “slippery slope” to exchange body parts to basically revamp who we are physically. “Gays” live the life they were born with and are finding acceptability on a growing scale. But “transgenders” will never see the same tolerance. First, body part changes create health issues that, according to a recent study could adversely impact mortality. Second, the same study found that suicide rates are much higher for “transgenders”. Third, the cost of attempting the “change” is exorbitant and can be afforded only by the very wealthy. This has lead to pressure for many organizations to cover these costs under their employee medical plans. This means that other employees share the cost. In the case of government plans, taxpayers foot the bill. In summary, those who attempt to enable the transgender in their pursuit of a new body will only make the mental stability of that individual even more unstable. It will cause even more harm in the future. Human cloning was outlawed some time ago because it threatened the integrity of the human race and its long term consequences could not be determined. This same logic applies to the transgender movement. The “slippery slope” suggests that if we supported body part exchanges, athletes would opt for longer legs, stronger arms, bigger chests and whatever other “enhancements’ they could get. If this sounds like pure science fiction—it is and the definition of “human being” would cease to exist.
