The worldwide COVID spread is never more rampant than in Japan. Masks are everywhere. Vaccinations are minimal. Close contact under stress is frowned upon. So–why hold the Olympics? As always, the answer is money. Advertising dollars are on the table and the networks want their share. We’ve already seen upwards of 200 infections in the Olympic Village, a ban on spectators, several athletes bowing out for fear of exposure. And Simone Biles, our best hope for Gymnastic gold, taking herself out of the competition for “mental health” reasons. The worst is definitely yet to come. More infections, some will be serious with long term affects….or worse. Imagine these amateur athletes having their whole productive lives ahead of them except for the recurring residuals from a COVID infection. They all risk that possibility. And when the games are concluded, all these individuals will return to their homelands with the real opportunity to spread COVID among their family and friends…all because the of the love of the almighty dollar. It isn’t love that makes the world go round…it’s love of money that makes the world go round.
