To be clear, we have voted Republican many times in past elections. But the current disarray of GOP actions is beyond our level of rationality. Clinging to the impossible belief that Trump is “re-electable”, McConnell, Rand Paul, Kevin McCarthy and others continue to follow him down the rabbit hole. While that sideshow plays out in various forms, let’s focus on the needs of the country. People need jobs: infrastructure needs fixing; immigration continues to be challenging; racial justice is dangerously out of balance; the list goes on. These are immediate serious issues that cannot wait for the GOP to get over Trump. Republicans have already gone on record saying they will oppose anything proposed by the Dems….so much for any bi-partisan collaboration. So let’s plan a solo flight. In any democracy the power resides in the hands of the voters. Coincidentally those same voters are the people most in need. So our suggested strategy is simple; take the negative GOP attitude to the voters. Example: when the Stimulus Bills are opposed by the GOP, publish a list of GOPers who voted NOT to put food on the table or not to provide eviction protection. This list should be provided prominently in the local newspapers of each GOP member who said NO to food and shelter. This strategy only needs to happen once. Soon enough the “listees” will feel the heat of their decisions and crumble. Following that step there will never be a blanket “we oppose everything” move; and that will be the beginning of progress toward common ground. All politicians want to remain in office so “outing” them is the quickest way to get their attention and cooperation.
