Recently a deranged individual shot up a Manhattan skyscraper that was home to many companies–including the National Football League. The individual left the message that the brain injuries caused by the game forced him to do the deed. In truth, this guy never played pro football or even much at the College level. So he was simply a deranged and fully armed nut job who had an imagined wrong done to him. He couldn’t even find the NFL Headquarters once inside the building. So again we have a failure to keep assault-style weapons from crazy people. The reaction of the NFL was off-the-charts overkill (pardon the pun). The NFL is now mandating stepped up security at every practice, game site and player gathering for the 2025 season. We can’t prove this but we doubt President Johnson received that much additional security after John Kennedy was assassinated. So, instead of an outraged public clamoring for stricter gun law checks to minimize a repeat of this kind a slaughter, we see spending millions of dollars on security. Wouldn’t it be prudent to try to prevent nut jobs from getting the weapons of mass destruction in the first place? To us, this is just another sign that America has accepted mass shootings as part of our culture and we are willing to allow future system failures because we do nothing to stop them except spend more money on security. Welcome to world where the top “music” recording has lyrics so filthy that children (or anyone for that matter) should never hear them. That’s the level of society we’ve reached.
