Over the last 100 plus years a pattern has evolved that most of the current generation in America have failed to notice. In 1917 our American president Woodrow Wilson attempted to keep us out of the European war which was started by the Kaiser in Germany. When it appeared that the Europeans might lose that war the Americans came to their rescue, put down the Kaiser and restored peace among the European countries. In 1939 Adolf Hitler, again from Germany, decided to rule Europe and he started by invading Poland. That started World War II and for a time we were hopeful that Europe could resist Hitler and his army. When the bombing of Great Britain started, the blitzkrieg as it was called, Winston Churchill appealed to both president Roosevelt and Stalin in Russia to help put down the Hitler offensive. After four years it was an allied forces victory and once again a German dictator was vanquished. Europe was saved from the on rushing German horde. Fast forward to three years ago when Putin of Russia decided to extend the borders to include Ukraine. Without any provocation he chose to invade a peaceful democratic country, Ukraine, and slaughter its citizens in his march. And now the current president of the US, like Wilson and Roosevelt before him, faces the question of whether he will come to the aid of Ukraine like Wilson and FDR, to save Europe. All the European countries know all too well that abandoning Ukraine is a mistake and that they would be the next Ukraine. But unlike Wilson and Roosevelt, Trump sees opportunity here for self gratification and possibly profit for himself and his organization. So instead of opposing Putin for the ruthless dictator that he is, Trump is trying to find ways to enrich his own lot at the expense of the slaughter of the Ukrainians. Imagine how World War I and World War II would have been resolved if Wilson and Roosevelt had taken the same path. Imagine where Hitler or the Kaiser would have stopped if they had conquered all of Europe. imagine our relationship with the countries of Europe if they had all gone under German conquest. If that had been the case the world would have been divided permanently and the threat to America would in a generation or two have been the same threat that Europe faced at the beginning of both of those world wars. Wilson and Roosevelt saw the potential for widespread warfare and stopped it before it got out of hand. Trump does not care for long term implications, he only cares for what he can get out of it. Forget the Ukrainian people, forget their slaughter, forget Europe if necessary. He now has Putin in his corner. Imagine Roosevelt in World War II if he had snuggled up with Hitler against all of Europe. Imagine whether Hitler would have stopped with Europe or whether German would be the national language of America today.
