The chaos being created in Washington DC is being broadcast throughout the country. Although the changes are significant in and of themselves, the real danger lies in the appointment of totally unqualified people into key roles at the Cabinet and advisory levels. The earliest example is happening with the national measles outbreak. At least 9 states and nearly 400 cases of measles have been reported. Two have died, a child and an adult. The outbreak continues to spread as RFK Jr. doubles down on his avoidance of vaccines. His knowledge of history apparently didn’t inform him that many years ago–thanks to a highly effective anti-measles vaccine–America officially announced that measles had been eradicated in the US. RFK Jr. must have missed that bit of news. As a result, hundreds of cases are now spreading throughout the country with some dire results. But RFK Jr. refuses to recognize that almost all of these affected individuals were unvaccinated. And therein lies the problem. Because he is unqualified to lead the Health and Human Services area he makes decisions that cause more harm than resolutions. Imagine how this kind of failure would happen if the unqualified Secretary of Defense had bombed an ally by mistake. Or if the Director of Homeland Security (who has no relevant experience) failed to anticipate another 9/11 attack. The strength of our Federal government is directly tied to the competence of its leadership. And right now–that’s not very comforting. Watch as the Trump menagerie fails to lead and fails to react effectively to crises. See how the Washington DC “F Troop” earns its stripes.
