The voters have spoken. Enough votes were cast for the candidates who believe climate change is a hoax. It should not surprise you that almost every weather-scientist on earth sees the numbers and concurs that our home planet is changing rapidly. Unfortunately it takes a trained mind to see that “rapidly” is a relative term. Weather trends, like temps, wind speed, moisture patterns and the like, are evident over a long historical past and they tell a story. But the story is not moving at 100 MPH; it moves more like the hands on a clock. But the keys are: IT KEEPS ON MOVING AND IT’S REVERSAL IS VERY LIMITED. The Trump team is more into “instant gratification”–meaning the next quarter’s profit and loss results. So–what we have here is–in the words of the movie “Cool Hand Luke”– a failure to communicate. If you live ONLY in the short run–it is extremely difficult to imagine the long run. And so we have the classic battle of time perspective. It is convenient to dismiss the long term impact of climate change if you focus only on tomorrow. And if–by focusing on tomorrow–you can do what profits you the most here and now–then tomorrow never comes. And so it is with Trump. Fossil fuels, the elimination of gas mileage improvements, tax credits for electric vehicles purchases–all serve his purpose. We think Trump will extend tax credits for EV’s–but only those made in the US–like Musk’s Tesla. How convenient!! Again, watch how the Trump-Musk wheeling and dealing changes the world.
