OK, we now have a GOP that has (with Trump’s insistence) refused to consider legislation that the GOP members themselves proposed. Trump wants this sore to fester during the campaign so he has something to talk about. But by now everyone has seen through the transparency of deceit. Yes, we know the Dems and many Republican members of Congress are unhappy–many are downright embarrassed. But–beyond that–there are other considerations. First–and foremost–all the people coming through Mexico will be held in political limbo for the next year while Trump tries to regain the presidency by complaining how poorly they’re being treated. (makes sense???) Second, Governor Abbott of Texas will be under fire because pressure continues to mount among his cronies that Texas cannot contain the flood of illegals. Will he try to bus them out? Where will the resources come from? Third, as the Federal Government and Texas continue to butt heads over treatment at the border, it is to be expected that Federal agents and Texas authorities will clash as the Washington DC establishment tries to figure out what temporary bandages will suffice until the presidential election is resolved. Fourth, as the funding for Ukraine and Israel seem linked to this totally unrelated immigration mess, Putin revels in our chaos as he sees allied support for Ukraine failing. All of these disastrous consequences are caused by Trump’s desire to keep Biden from trying to solve this border crisis. Let’s hope the GOP rational members can convince the rest of the bunch that voters will remember this when they decide the November election. We see a huge backlash if Trump refuses to let the problem be solved.
