OK, so now the GOP–sensing its clownish inadequacy–decided to pick a Speaker from the “lost and found” faction of the GOP ranks. Mike Johnson, a Trump-Jordan clone, is the fresh face propped up by a desperate Republican caucus. He now enters the impossible role of addressing several urgently critical issues like government shutdown (pushed by Trump), funding the Ukraine war (opposed by Trump) and military support for Israel (conflicting comments from Trump). Unfortunately, Johnson is confronted by the same 25 GOP House members who vehemently opposed Jim Jordan for the Speaker job because they disagree with Jordan’s position on the stolen election, Ukraine, raising the debt ceiling and other crucial attitudes. So the math is easy….ANY proposed action sponsored by Johnson will split GOP support such that nothing will be approved. This ultimately means that Democratic members will need to be involved and hence we will be forced to act in a bi-partisan manner–like it or not. Either ALL proposed bills find bi-partisan support or they will die on the House floor. This will undoubtedly mean that MAGA morons (Gaetz, Greene, etc — 8 in all) will be unhappy with the “leadership” results of Johnson very shortly and he will face the same dilemma as his predecessor, McCarthy. His ouster climax will either force GOP unification (at least all but 4 members can stop their actions) or result in a Johnson expulsion and the hunt for a new Speaker. Of course all GOP Speaker hopefuls will then realize that to be a Speaker candidate one must wear a target on their back and hence we will have another empty gavel role. The MAGA one vote and out holds all the cards and since MAGA members refuse to compromise the mess we endured for 3 Speaker-less weeks will happen again. In the meantime all the Trump legal woes progress and we have a scenario where the GOP accomplishes only its own demise in Congress while rallying around a candidate who may be in jail and ineligible for ANY Office. The Trump rabbit hole is destroying the GOP and no intelligent life form among Republicans is emerging. 2024 will be a disastrous election year for the “red trickle” versus the “blue tidal wave” and they can only blame themselves.
