Humanity can boast about all we have developed over the centuries. But one aspect of that growth is that all our improvements were designed to benefit mankind (sorry ladies–it’s just an expression). But we’re now entering another world–the world where we create a higher intelligent version of ourselves. The experts tell us that AI will lead to devices/robots/machines/?? that could decide that all carbon-based life forms are inefficient and to be eliminated. That means you and and I suddenly join the endangered species list. And if that prospect wasn’t bad enough the thought that rival countries could find a way to harness AI such that it can selectively eliminate only that countries enemies. Because no one can really forecast what form AI will eventually take and what it’s abilities will become many scientists have asked our Federal Government to establish world-wide rules for its development in an effort to control growth and potential misuse. Stay tuned. AI can be the greatest tech advance ever or it could be the last advance seen by the human race. Controlling it is just as important as controlling nuclear weapons. The Strategic Arms Limitations Treaty (SALT) was formed to protect our civilization from the nuclear threat. We need the same kind of agreement and understand for AI.
