For those of you keeping score on the legal process, our ex-president has been and is being investigated for over a year on several actions. To name a few: New York fraud, New York hush money paid to a porn star, Georgia election tampering (a felony in Georgia), involvement in or complicit to the January 6th riot and the stealing of over 100 Classified Documents. He remains free and has only recently been indicted in New York on hush money/campaign fund misuse. Our point; he’s still living in his lavish Florida estate despite the amount of evidence on-hand. Contrast that long drawn-out legal process with the case of the 21 year old National Guard IT expert who has been charged with disclosing classified information. He apparently was not selling the info to Russia; he was just trying to impress his buddies. Stupid–yes; criminal–probably. But our point is that he was arrested and was incarcerated the day after the news broke. The evidence of his guilt is still being sorted out. BUT HE’S IN JAIL; TRUMP’S IN MAR-A-LAGO. When you consider the potential harm that Trump can do and is doing to threaten the judge and the District Attorney and the continual use of social media to spread what can only be called seditious lies we ask “why does the legal system feel Trump should be allowed to run free?” Last week Russia extended an invitation to give Trump asylum. That would be a major disaster. Imagine a former US president living in Russia to avoid US justice and having all the secret information he must have been exposed to over four years. This comparison goes beyond the level of weirdness; it goes to the level of national security. Without reining in Trump over the lengthy time of these investigations we are asking for even more national jeopardy. At the very least he should be barred from all social media, warned that one more threat will result in jailing and not be permitted to raise money by lying to the American public. He’s dragging all of us through a minefield of problems hoping that somehow he will prevail. And that prospect is the sum of all fears.
