After George Santos showed us how far the GOP is willing to stoop to preserve its values two more Republican members of Congress have been called out for lying about their credentials. Reps. Ogle and Luna both admitted that they falsified their backgrounds. Ogle had the audacity to say that he was “mistaken” about attending a specific college. Can you imagine how effective a member of Congress can be if he can’t remember whether he attended a specific college or not? Maybe Nikki Haley was referring to him when she suggested a competency test. The real tragedy here is the acceptance of admitted liars as part of the lawmaking process in the Federal system. Not only may they be less qualified because they aren’t as educated as they said they were–but also they’re less inclined to reach ethical judgements. If you’re a known liar how can anyone trust anything you say or do? Is that the type of person we need in Congress? And yes, Democratic Rep Cortez is under fire for taking clothing and other gifts during a recent fashion show and yes she should be reprimanded. But her actions do not demonstrate lack of qualifications to do the job her constituents elected her to do. We fear that a closer investigation of others might be opening a large can of worms. Anyone for fishing???
