All we hear about today is extreme “bleeding heart” liberals and extreme right wing conservatives. What we’re missing is the “extreme middles”. These “middles” have always been the major component of both political parties. From the beginning of the democracy they have been the “cool heads” that prevailed. Their attitude was “find the common ground” on any issue and hammer out a compromise. Those “middles” are today a scarce commodity. The Democrats (AKA “liberals”) know that embracing the popular view on every issue gains votes. In addition the Dems are more accepting of the plight of minority groups like African-Americans, Latinos, pro-abortion activists, climate changers (the old “tree-huggers”), and others. By contrast the GOP (AKA “conservatives”) has positioned itself at the other “extreme” by catering to the white elite (a diminishing number of voters), anti-abortionists, polluters, and other less popular voter blocs. Under Trump it seems like the GOP actually welcomes white supremacist organizations. Ask yourself: when did you last hear any member of Congress referred to as a “moderate”? Then picture a ship (America) with two relatively equal captains ordering the course in different–and opposing–directions. That’s what we have. And that’s what we need to change NOW.
