After the GOP regained control of the House of Representatives the Republican Party let it be known that their goal was to oppose ANYTHING proposed by the Democrats. That’s not a progressive attitude and the Dems should capitalize on the GOP stance. Unfortunately for the GOP they have taken the minority (of voters) position on every major issue…abortion, climate change, gun laws, veterans benefits, student loan forgiveness and anything else Biden suggests. For a while they even headlined the reduction of Social Security and Medicare. Then they realized how unpopular that would be (meaning the loss of votes) and they were tricked into backing off publicly during the State of the Union Address. Now Biden and the Dems have a clear path before them. Their strategy to move the country forward is to publicly propose and communicate changes they want to make on abortion, climate change and all the other issues of the day. When the GOP House or Senate members oppose their proposals the Dems should publish the names of every GOP member of Congress who voted “no” on specific issues. This will spotlight individuals in their home states and focus voters preferences on what their elected officials opposed. Example: if the Dems propose a pro-abortion bill and the House refuses to agree and pass it on to the Senate the Dems should publish the names of the elected GOP House members who voted the idea down–especially in the “purple” and swing states. Then voters in those states will see their GOP incumbents and their opposition to what the majority of voters want. Look what happened in the vividly “red” state of Kansas when voters decided the abortion law change there. The people spoke. If the Dems publicize these kinds of issues as the next election nears there is a huge possibility that Dems will prevail. On the contrary, if the Dems do not use this approach the GOP will blame the Biden administration and the Democratic members of Congress for zero accomplishments in the last two years. Let’s watch how this plays out.
