If ever anyone held any job as a temporary employee–it’s Kevin McCarthy. His GOP House majority is so disunified that they would only agree to his Speaker position if he gave them the authority to oust him with one vote any time in the next two years. Given the totally contra positions of the “Freedom Caucus” of 20 House Reps it is nearly impossible to imagine McCarthy surviving as Speaker for any length of time. The first time the “Caucus” takes a stand (and they will) any member can threaten McCarthy with a “no” vote and he has no wiggle room to dissent. This is called “the tail wagging the dog”. In this case the dog gave the tail the right. The real problem here is: if the GOP cannot agree on legislative changes nothing will be presented to the Senate for final passage. That’s called “stagnation” and is just another example of government failure. We the people do not even enter into the discussion. We hope the Speaker has a fallback or exit strategy because he’s living on the edge of his sword.
