We reviewed the list of the top 10 movies last week. What we found is disturbing–especially at Christmastime. Seven of the ten movies contain graphic violence. One is about adultery. One is a cartoon and the last one is a sci-fi action movie about a super hero. (The cartoon isn’t doing as well as the rest.) The brief description about each dignifies the “action-adventure” nature of the film–despite its violence. On the same page was an ad for an old movie entitled “The Bishop’s Wife”. It starred a full “A-list” of Hollywood actors from the 1940’s and gave the Turner Classic Movies time and date of showing. This is a cute story with humor about a bishop who tries to raise money for his parish. It stars include Cary Grant and David Niven (who plays the bishop.) The description termed the movie a “fantasy”. Mind you, the current super hero movie, the cartoon, and the graphic violence movies were not considered fantasies. Food for thought…
