When we first posted this type of report we didn’t realize it would be just the beginning of an on-going event. It amazes us that so many people in the public eye are unmistakably guilty of criminal actions and still escape any accountability for their deeds. Here we go again…our favorite target is one Donald J. Trump. Despite months of investigation the Attorney General now feels that there is not enough evidence to charge the former president with any crimes. A Federal Judge openly disagrees saying Trump is probably guilty of 5 felonies. But there is not enough evidence to even pursue the case any further. Sound fair to you? Well, here’s the real back story. Remember the 2008 financial crisis? Remember the term “too big to fail”? That’s what Trump represents. Imagine what effects jailing Trump would have. First the Trump Organization would probably crumble without his “leadership”. Next, all the lending institutions who have huge outstanding loans would be stiffed; and the executives who signed off on those loans would be fired. Imagine how many GOP big donors that represents. Then imagine the impact on the State of New York as former Trump employees seek unemployment insurance benefits, suppliers to the Trump organization file for bankruptcy and other businesses take revenue “hits”. You get the idea? Trump is safe because he’s just the tip of the iceberg that keeps the iceberg afloat. End of story. Second example of unpunished criminality…Larry Householder, Speaker of the House in Ohio. Linked securely to bribery charges in connection with First Energy Corporation (an Ohio Public Utility) his trial has just been re-scheduled for sometime after hell freezes over–no, actually it has been delayed until sometime (?) next year. He’s still in the Ohio House as if everything is A- OK. Sounds right? Next let’s talk about several corporate patent theft cases. A small company, Netlist, designed and tried to sell an incredibly effective software memory chip to Google, Samsung, Qualcomm and Micron over the past 13 years. They all said “No thanks”. Then they promptly duplicated the software, made billions of dollars in profits and ignored US patent laws. Fast forward to today. Netlist has won all legal claims against Google and Samsung with the others standing in line for their turn. But the courts–after confirming the patent thefts beyond any further appeal–are allowing Google and the rest to continue using the stolen patent while time is wasted on useless legal motions that accomplish nothing. This delay is designed to smother Netlist under the weight of legal fees. It hasn’t worked so far but time is clearly a deterrent to justice here. We thought patent theft was easy to resolve. The guilty party pays the value of the stolen patent with interest, future licensing fees and a penalty to dissuade other companies from similar acts. So what’s the problem here? Next, Deshaunn Watson, the new Cleveland quarterback. Accused by 22 women of sexual abuse he was recently awarded a $250 million contract by the Cleveland Browns. Can you reasonably believe that 22 individuals are lying? Can you expect an investigation? Can you accept a $250 million contract under these circumstances? Governor Cuomo was forced to resign due to the accusations of 6 female staffers. Do you see a difference here? And what about the National Football League’s sexual abuse/domestic violence policy? Did someone forget about all the BS (technical term) that has come from Commissioner Goodell’s office over the past several years? And finally, Will Smith assaults Chris Rock in full view of several million people. Has he been charged with assault. Could you do that to someone on the street and not be charged? What’s the difference? Spoiler alert: THE ANSWER TO ALL THESE AND EVERY OTHER INJUSTICE IS MONEY. Introduce the money angle into any of these situations and the “justification” becomes perfectly clear. Stay tuned for the next installment of “Crime without Punishment”. Life goes on so criminals will continue to survive and even prosper.
