Whether you consider yourself a Catholic or not you may find “anothersview” comments of interest as they touch on the aspect of equality. As a follow up to a previous post, the issue of ordaining women as Catholic priests needs to be re-evaluated. While it is true that the Bible reports only men as the First Apostles it does not bar–in any way–women from eligibility for priestly duties. In the recorded time of Christ the role of women in society was far different than it is today—and thank God (pardon the pun!!)!!!! No one can dispute the equality of women and men in today’s ever-enlightened world. If men and women are truly equal–and they are except for physical differences like child-bearing–how could women NOT be capable of priestly work? In fact women may bring more to the caring aspect than men. But rather than wander into the dangerous land of stereotyping, let’s just say that women should qualify under the Job Description for Priest. If the Catholic Church wants to better fulfill its mission to bring us all to eternity it needs to recruit the right kind of people (male and female) to get the job done. Other religions have already “seen the light” by encouraging devoted men and women to do the Lord’s work.
