While millions of Americans suffer through COVID-depressed economic conditions Congressional Republicans continue to oppose relief measures that would put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads. As an extreme, one Republican–in a futile and childish attempt to delay the vote–demanded that the 600+ pages of the proposed relief bill be read out loud. The GOP gripe is that we cannot afford the $1.9 trillion cost. Ok, ket’s compromise. I suggest that 50% to 100% of all the Stimulus money that would have been sent to states governed by Republicans be removed from the bill. That will keep the cost down and make Congressional Republicans happy as a pig in you-know-what.

Of course, the next step would be to publish the names of all Republicans who voted for the revised bill. This would let their voter base know how much their elected officials care about their welfare. As someone once said “it’s easy to hide behind anonymous ‘yeas’ and ‘nays’ in the voting process but tough when you know your name will be shouted from the rooftops.

However this bill succeeds, the names of those who voted against helping us during these times of extreme desperation should be published in every newspaper. Maybe the fear of working in the light will impact their future positions.

POSTSCRIPT: Ever since the beginning of the Obama Administration, Republicans have become the obstinate negative voice on all issues. Our democracy requires specific foundation blocks to operate efficiently. Among them, a balance of power between branches, an appreciation for Constitutional principles, an unrelenting attitude of working toward the welfare of all American citizens and finally (and now most essential because of its absence), a willingness to compromise on the structure and delivery of needed changes. Without bi-partisan cooperation the democratic system of government fails—especially when one side consistently opposes ANY CHANGE favored by the other. This constant harping at each other MUST STOP.

PASS THE STIMULUS BILL NOW !!!
