The November defeat of Donald Trump has given birth to an incredible reaction among Republicans. Secretly hating Trump because his unconventional self-feeding arrogance puts the GOP in an unfavorable light, various GOP members of Congress are looking for an “out”. Cruz and Hawley have designs on the presidency–the vice presidency–because Pence is finished in the party. So, step one is to keep the illegitimate claim alive that Trump didn’t really lose. Step two is to ride that dream as far as possible to raise money–supposedly to fund future campaigns–but not really. Step Three is to change the voting process to make absentee and mail-in votes more restrictive. This is believed to have caused the election loss–yes, the loss that Trump refuses to accept. Keep in mind that 55 lawsuits found no election fraud and each state certified results—all indicating that the 2020 election was the most secure and reliable in our history. But that’s reality and a bitter pill for the GOP and especially “you know who”.

Now, looking ahead, the GOP has launched an effort to clean up the debris left behind by Trump. His COVID mismanagement is legendary resulting in hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths; but the GOP hasn’t figured out yet how to bring the dead back to life so that failure is simply ignored. But the Georgia vote phone call to the Republican Secretary of State is a problem that will be defended to avoid legal entanglement. My prediction is that Trump will claim that he was not aware that he broke any law. (What ever happened to the expression “ignorance of the law is no excuse?”) He’ll probably beat that rap despite overwhelming evidence against acquittal. As for the probe into real estate, tax and insurance fraud in the New York case, the NY Attorney General seemed to have an open field to run with the ball. But now we have the Cuomo probe. Suddenly three “abused” women have come forward accusing the Governor of unwanted sexual actions. While his denials have been somewhat “lukewarm”, the matter is clearly an attempt to douse any political aspirations of the third most widely recognized Democrat in the US. This will divide the AG’s attention and slow down the Trump case. I wonder if anyone has checked the bank accounts of these three accusers. Or maybe they came forward now because they just remembered how terribly they were assaulted.

Governance is power and power is money…stay tuned for more on this later.
