The year 2025 saw many state’s gun laws change…some became stricter but many were relaxed even more than previously. The pattern is simple to follow. The “red states” became more liberal by increasing access to guns, blocking “red flag” legislation, avoiding merchant identification (gun sales), broadening concealed carry laws and ignoring the restrictions on assault weapons. This is typical because GOP-controlled “red states” receive 100% of the funds contributed by the National Rifle Association and other gun-support groups. He who pays the piper calls the tune. But, in “blue states” just the opposite is occurring. Gun laws such as background checks, bans on rapid fire weapons and “red flag” rules are growing. There are many stats that will show how pathetically the red states are handling their open-door gun situations but the most telling is homicide rates. Red states have 2.5 times the number of murders as blue states. To amplify that stat, mass shootings are much more prevalent in red states and the destruction toll (deaths and injuries) is higher. Why do people not see the connection? Why does the average American accept these kinds of results? Ask any parent, sibling or friend who has lost someone in a mass shooting and you’d probably find that they are in favor of tightening gun laws. But–by then–it’s too late. And the speed with which first responders react is irrelevant to the victim’s families because death is never a “do-over”. All those people who voted Republican in November need to reflect on their acceptance of severe results when mass shootings occur. Those voters said “yes, we support open gun access.” There are over 400 million guns in circulation in America–more than one/man, woman and child. We are armed and dangerous–to ourselves. Is that the best we can do?
