As you will see in the next post–it’s open season on Supreme Court justices. It has been proven that Thomas received over $4.2 million in gifts from GOP mega donors. (all his talk about spending vacations in an RV in a Walmart parking lot–REALLY?) While the TV talking heads are furious about his lies and coverups we ask the question: when is he going to be charged with tax evasion? It is painfully obvious that Justice Thomas did not declare those gifts either on the court’s own disclosure form or on a Tax Return. So why isn’t he being pursued like any other tax evader? Al Capone, the famous gangster of the 1930’s, was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment for income tax evasion. In Capone’s case, the government asked Capone where all his funds came from to support his lavish lifestyle. Capone couldn’t admit that the money came from bootlegging, prostitution, the numbers racket and other illegal activities. But–strictly on the basis that he couldn’t reveal his income sources–the government convicted him of evading taxes on whatever income he received from whatever sources/activities he had. In Thomas’s case we know where the income came from and how much he received. We also know he paid no taxes on over $4.2 million. Question: if Thomas isn’t prosecuted how can the IRS prosecute anyone else ever for income tax evasion? Doesn’t Thomas work in a building with the front door inscription “equal rights under the law”? What’s wrong with this picture?
