No, we don’t know who will win the Super Bowl tomorrow. But we have a prediction. Either Philadelphia will win or the game will be very close. There will not be a Kansas City blowout. The reasoning is simple. The East coast is a huge ad market. If KC dominates the Eagles there is a real possibility that “Easterners” may lose interest and turn the TV off. That would be a calamity for the advertisers who have paid as much as $7 million for a 30 second ad. And looking ahead to next year, a KC massacre would make negotiating next years’ ads more difficult for the networks. Next year advertisers may want some “wiggle room” in their contract if a relatively small market team plays and dominates a huge market team. It’s all about the money. Watch the officials tomorrow. If a runaway starts to happen, don’t be surprised to see some questionable calls. As always the “stakeholders” (those who have the largest amount of money involved) will want a tight game to be decided in the final seconds. That way everybody pays attention all game. By the way, an Eagles blowout degrades the enjoyment of the game for the rest of the country because the result is not in doubt. So we’re “betting” on ad money ruling the day and, of course, the bookies will beat the spread–if more money favors that score. You heard it here first. THIS WAS PUBLISHED AT 9:10 EASTERN TIME ON SATURDAY, 2/11/23.
