Whenever a state has a weak Governor trouble is abundant. In past postings we’ve commented on crimes, stupid decisions and pure confusion on the part of the GOP-led legislature. We now offer the latest travesties as an update:
- Recently the Ohio State legislature considered a bill to increase penalties for domestic abuse. But they stopped short of including a provision that would have made it illegal for a convicted domestic abuser to own a gun. So they’re saying “after an individual beats up his spouse we’ll penalize you more severely than we did last year. But it’s ok to own a gun that you might use to kill her”. Such is the power of the campaign money flow from the National Rifle Association.
- The day before RFK Jr. remarked that he was planning to eliminate “dangerous” vaccines, the Head of the Ohio Association of Health Care Plans released a press statement saying that he was promoting vaccines. In this heavily Republican state that kind of out-of-sync remark could get you fired. We guess he just didn’t get the Trump/RFK Jr. memo.
- Shame of all shames–the University of Michigan college football team (unranked) beat THE Ohio State college football team–AGAIN!!! The jubilant Michigan players tried to plant a Michigan flag at midfield after the game and a brawl ensued. It seems like the Ohio players refused to accept their failure on the field. Shortly thereafter, the Republican-led legislature introduced a bill to make planting a flag at Ohio Stadium a FELONY!! So Ohio was considering planting a flag at a sporting event on the same seriousness level as premeditated murder, armed robbery, and many other major infractions. Fortunately (for Michigan), the GOP calmed down and realized how stupid this bill would make them appear and they squelched it. Wow, that was close!!
- A church in Bryan, Ohio was proud that it could give shelter to the homeless especially at this time of the year. Their kindness was noticed by the Mayor of Bryan who immediately had them removed to the streets again. It seems she found some arcane law that forbids kindness around Christmas. We hope she has coal in her stocking to match the rocks in her head.
- And finally, an update on the First Energy crimes. First Energy Senior Vice President Dennis Chack refused to provide info on his role in the defrauding of $230 million of taxpayer funds. Among various questionable acts was his failure to disclose a $500,000 payment to Chack’s daughter’s consulting business purportedly for providing advertising and billboard services. Chack’s daughter is a registered nurse.
We have commented on other states shenanigans in the past. We invite you to watch your state and how it spends your taxpayer funds. Any feedback you can give us–after separate verification–will be shared with all our readers.
