The Trump-Epstein relationship has been front page stuff for about 10 days. While Trump tries his usual distraction and denial strategy it becomes more and more apparent that this story will not die. As we watch, more leaks will occur. The media has been assaulted and Rupert Murdock has 9 billion reasons to back his Wall Street Journal’s reporting. As part of the Trump strategy Todd Blanche (Trump’s former defense attorney and current #2 at the Department of Justice) is interviewing Ghislaine Maxwell–supposedly at her request. We don’t believe that effort will be productive in any manner. Maxwell was convicted of child sex trafficking for over a decade and actually participating in the abuse of some of those young girls. How much credibility should we assign to her testimony? She wants a full pardon, a reduced sentence, better accommodations or something else. (Maybe an appointment to the Trump Cabinet) The point is: why bother to ask a convicted felon for information? She will probably attempt to exonerate Trump entirely and maybe even name prominent Democrats as clients. Except for the most demented MAGA nuts–no one will believe her. But just naming anyone will force the image and reputation of that person(s) to be tarnished and so lawsuits will follow. All this will further distract and delay any further investigation of the Trump-Epstein ties. We need victims to come forth. We need FBI personnel who looked at the files within the last few weeks to leak what they saw–regardless of the identities named. But–in no world is interviewing Maxwell worth anyone’s time. She has disqualified herself as having any trustworthiness and her information is fruit of the forbidden tree. Every lawyer should know that and every citizen should see her words for their zero value.
