DICTATORSHIP — a form of government in which one person or a small group possesses absolute power without effective constitutional limitations.

The US is built on and has relied on its Constitution and its three equal branches of government for over 250 years. Our foundation is based on opposition to the King of England and his repressive and absolute rule. The founding fathers believed that they had structured a form of democratic rule that would insure a division of power so that internal checks and balances eliminate another “KINGship” experience.

Fast forward to today. Mainstream media is soft-pedaling the arrival of our dictator. But you judge for yourself whether we fit the above definition. First, Trump has violated several clauses of the US Constitution. He accepts gifts violating the emoluments clause–Article 2, Section 1. He has suggested that he will seek a third term. His latest comment is unsettling because he may believe he won’t need to actually hold an election as a quasi-king in 2028. This third term or permanent ruler status violates Amendment XXII. Recently Trump has authorized the deportation of legal residents without due process. This is a direct violation of Amendment XIV. He is now promoting the suspension of the Right of Habeas Corpus which is only permitted in cases of rebellion or invasion. Since neither of these events is occurring, this would be a violation of Article 1, Section 9. Recently Trump said he didn’t know whether he was required to abide by the Constitution. He should have been reminded of his Oath of Office where he swore to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States”. We guess he forgot that promise–maybe it’s difficult for a 78 year old to recall what he said about 3 months ago.

Next, we consider the three equal branches myth. The majority of Republicans in Congress have abdicated their authority and abandoned their integrity. They no longer work for us–the American citizen. Even in matters where the Constitution reserves their authority–like setting tariffs–they have deferred to Trump. In a series of “rubber-stamping” they have confirmed totally unqualified individuals for key Cabinet and advisory posts–thereby weakening the chain of command. They continue to support the termination of thousands of Federal workers without regard for organizational needs and expertise. The Trump orbiters are consistently failing at their posts. Example: Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has repeatedly used an unsecure communication system to detail war plans. Instead of correcting his obvious mistake–he’s double-downed by having that unsecure line attached to his office system. And Trump has either backed him on this failure or denied any knowledge of the event. In addition, major flaws and actions can be attributed to all of the orbiters and now that they have fired experienced staffers–there is no knowledgeable person available to clean up their messes.

Finally, let’s look at the US Supreme Court–the third “equal” branch. A series of bad judgement calls portrays a misguided court that relishes two priorities; (1) self-preservation and (2) greed. Clarence Thomas is famous for lying about gifts he took without reporting them. We still don’t know how much MAGA donors have stuffed in his pockets. And other “conservative” judges have distinguished themselves either by accepting gifts, favoring the Trump Administration or paving the way for American citizens to be de-prioritized. The recent 9 to 0 ruling on the Kilmar Abrego Garcia deportation might have proved to be a turning point except that Trump simply ignored the ruling and to-date, nothing has been done to accomplish the next step. Mr. Trump is clearly guilty of contempt of court–not just any court–but the Supreme Court of the United States. For willfully defying a 9 to 0 ruling on the unlawful deportation of Mr. Garcia without due process Mr. Trump, by law, is subject to fines, imprisonment and possibly other sanctions. Keep in mind these are not typical players in this game. This is your government at the highest levels ignoring US Constitutional laws, defying court orders with no repercussions. Does this seem like the right course of inaction?

So–while you watch, read or hear the continuation of Trump’s antics like accepting a $400 million plane from a foreign country, using his office to swing a hotel deal in Saudi Arabia (after the Khashoggi murder and dismemberment) and other Middle Eastern “deals” mixing the Trump Real Estate business with American political policies–remember the definition of “dictatorship”. And try to deny our comment. Folks, you live in the same environment as 1930’s Germany and today’s Russia. Notice how most media sources try not to use the term but how it is the six hundred pound gorilla in the room. Something needs to bring us back to democracy rule. Some people think that the off-year 2026 elections will be the answer. We, at anothersview, hope we can hold out that long to hold honest and open elections. But every day that hope grows dimmer.
