It would be funny if it weren’t so dangerous. You’ve heard the old saying that “a chain is only as strong as its weakest link”. Well, how strong do you think a chain is WHEN ALL OF ITS LINKS ARE WEAK? This is the Federal government staff we now endure. While their daily screw-ups may be funny to us, they are viewed as opportunities to our adversaries. So let’s not laugh our country into third world country status. The following is just a limited summary of what Trump and his orbiters have “accomplished”. You’ve probably read about these or heard them reported in the media but we wanted to compile a few of the more disturbing news items in the hopes that you would react with concern. It is your country and these are the individuals who were chosen to make all the important decisions on the national agenda.

  • The Trump tariffs will clearly cause a recession. And the shame is that none of his tariff moves were necessary FROM ANY POINT OF VIEW. Even if American manufacturing plants were built three years from now the cost of products made in those plants would raise the cost of living in America by at lease 25% to 35%. Do you expect to receive that kind of wage increase in the next three years?
  • Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth is an easy target (pun intended). This man is a great example of a wasted education. He may have graduated from respected institutions but it didn’t change his inability to use common sense. He participated in two unsecured communications in which imminent war plans were discussed in detail. A journalist was included in one exchange. And to double down on his obvious failure, he’s had the Signal communication system hook-up installed in his office. He’s also spent a fortune in tax dollars to have his own hair and make-up facility built next to his office. His reputation as a drunk and spouse abuser was disregarded by the GOP members of Congress as irrelevant. What a joke he is and will become as we endure his “leadership” decisions.
  • Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is another clueless cog in the Trump orbit. Here’s a man who–with absolutely no medical or scientific knowledge–disdains the use of vaccines as more harmful than useful. Can you imagine how he would have handled the COVID pandemic? No–because we’d all be dead by now if he had made the decision not to vaccinate. He currently is alternating between denying the measles vaccine and endorsing it. The widespread measles outbreak of now over 1,200 cases and existing in 30 states has forced him to spin his opinion. First he said this outbreak is nothing new. We have this every year. NO, that isn’t true. Then he said it was contained. No–that isn’t true either. Now he’s off-and-on downplaying the value of the vaccine as the outbreak continues to spread. Just another Trumpian joke perpetrated on the voters. He’s also decided to ban fluoride in public drinking water systems despite the overwhelming evidence that fluoride prevents tooth decay.
  • Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem is clearly one of Trump’s Hollywood Tape types. Her best talents are looks. She has no qualifications for her job. The optics of the Secretary wearing an AK-47 as she personally deports immigrants (many of whom are here legally) are childishly unnecessary. And recently she had her $4,000 purse stolen while in a restaurant. If she can’t protect her purse from thieves how safe does that make you feel? And apparently she’s handpicked her Secret Service detail because they missed the theft completely. We wonder what her criteria were for choosing those individuals?
  • Attorney General Pam Bondi–another Trump Hollywood tape type–has violated every oath and major policy statement she made when vetted by Congress. She said she would act independently of the President. NO, that “weaponization” tactic has been on full display since January 20th. She has stood by and not only watched American “legals” be deported but she has defended returning them despite US Supreme Court and several lower court orders. This is the “top cop” in America consistently and emphatically ignoring the equally powerful judicial branch of the Federal Government. Trump has decided not to talk about it. She is on record as saying “Mr. Garcia will never be returned to the US.” We have reached the most critical “Constitutional crisis” of our history. If Trump is allowed to disregard the “facilitate the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia” order the judicial branch of our government will be admitting that Trump dictates legal policy. He already has the gutless Congress in his pocket. We need to see repercussions of the Supreme Court ruling or we will be a de facto authoritarian government form.
  • Secretary of State Marco Rubio is probably to most vanilla member of the Trump cabinet. In reality his only job (despite several titles) is as the “primary Trump suck-up”. He does whatever Trump wants him to do in relation to other countries just as Musk deflected criticism by firing all the federal employees. Rubio and Musk have assumed the role of targets for internal and external ire. Rubio is the ultimate “yes man”.
  • Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent has one role. He is expected to spin the Trump economic decisions into a morass of confusion. Recently he came out as saying that tariffs are “not sustainable”. That took guts and is about as strong a rebuke as Trump will tolerate. Maybe Mr. Bessent is feeling too much heat in the kitchen and is starting to value his reputation over satisfying a larcenous president.
  • Mehmet Oz is the new head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The fact that he is now in a position to financially profit by making decisions that will benefit companies he holds stock in is irrelevant. Self-dealing in the Trump Administration is common. Recently Dr. Oz said “the federal agency must ensure medical care is lawful, necessary and truly in the best interest of patients’ as he described that “Medicaid dollars are not to be used for gender reassignment surgeries or hormone treatments in minors–procedures that can cause permanent, irreversible harm, including sterilization”. But, in March, 2012, on his TV show he indicated that “transgender people aren’t acting on a whim or making a choice. This is a legitimate medical condition.” It seems Dr. Oz changed his tune to get the job.
  • National Security Advisor Mike Walz who initiated the first unsecured Hegseth communication and added a journalist to the conversation was removed from his NSA role…and now is in line to be the US Ambassador to the United Nations. Instead of being charged with leaking war plans that endangered the lives of US service members, he will now be representing the US to the world. How comforting is that?
  • The most recent appointee is Jared Isaacman who will “lead” NASA. Mr. Isaacman has a checker history–to say the least. He has been charged rightfully for trying to pass “bad checks” totaling a million dollars that he owed to a casino owned by–you guessed it–Donald Trump. Trump eventually settled for $650,000. Then he tried the same bad check routine for two million dollars and was pursued by the police. He was found trying to flee the country at the Canadian border. And, add this distinction, he was in the pilot queue for Elon Musk’s SpaceX program.

When we add the gutless Congress and an impotent US Supreme Court to this (partial) list of misfits it is incomprehensible to assume that our government has any strength in any area. Don’t try to spot weak links. They’re everywhere you look. And while their hijinks might be amusing day-to-day they present dangerous exposure to those who want to control us. The Trump Administration is populated by political whores who are anxious to surrender their integrity for impressive sounding positions in government. Imagine another 9/11 or another COVID or any other major event and watch these inept and unqualified individuals fail to respond or maybe make the situation worse. Governing is not a game. It requires expert players who know their roles and are willing to support America–just like the oath they took said they would. How safe do you feel?
