Yesterday, Easter Sunday, marked the 90th day of the Trump reign. We thought it would useful to view this 90 day “probationary period” to list his accomplishments. At a time when thousands of federal employees are being fired for “performance” reasons we thought our readers might be interested in seeing whether the President’s performance merited his remaining in the job for four more years. The following points are indisputable. We all saw, heard and/or corroborated them from multiple sources. You may not like these solid facts but you cannot refute them.
- The most obvious result of the first 90 days is Trump’s failure to accomplish any of his campaign promises. In fact, he has taken steps to worsen all the issues he promised to fix.
- He threatened to invade/control/annex Greenland, Panama, Canada and Mexico–causing a backlash from our nearest trade partners and NATO (Denmark is a NATO member.).
- He actually suggested that military force might be necessary to acquire Greenland. 85% of Greenlanders want nothing to do with Trump’s America. And Denmark–as a NATO member–could ask other NATO members to align against the US if invaded.
- Trump has terminated government employees with thousands of years expertise in their jobs and replaced them with mega donors, Hollywood tape type women and their cronies–thereby weakening our government at all levels.
- He has supported the deportation of immigrants without due process–violating the US Constitution. This has led to a confrontation with the US Supreme Court.
- His choice for Secretary of Defense, Hegseth–a totally unqualified individual with a checkered past as a drunk and spouse abuser–has endangered American service people’s lives by using an unsecured communication system to discuss and convey war plans-TWICE.
- His choice for Secretary of Health and Human Services, RFK Jr.—an avowed anti-vaxxer–has stood on totally unscientific grounds saying that vaccines cause autism and therefore should not be endorsed. The result is a widespread (and rapidly spreading) measles outbreak of over 1,000 cases and 30 states, with 3 unnecessary deaths.
- He has delayed emergency funds for California (a “blue” state) during their horrific wild fire episode because he blamed Gov. Newsome’s forestry programs as the cause. He was completely oblivious to the reality that thousands of Californians were living on the streets and depending on shipped in food supplies to stay alive. When the same wild fire emergencies hit the Carolina’s (both “red” states) there was no mention of their forestry mis-management and emergency aid was promptly delivered.
- For reasons unknown to anyone Trump instituted sweeping tariffs on almost every country on earth. Of course they retaliated with the result that all purchases in each country will be much more expensive. This inflation must cause a worldwide recession because the purchasing dollar will simply not go as far. The Biden economy was sound and inflation was decreasing to the level acceptable to the Federal Reserve Open Market Committee. Unemployment was well within “full employment” status. Both inflation and unemployment will suffer with the Trump tariffs.
- Trump’s assault on the rule of law was evident from the beginning. He pardoned hundreds of convicted rioters who were filmed assaulting Capitol police on January 6, 2021. Then he sponsored deportation without due process, without any proof of criminal activity or evidence. His regime has earned the reputation as “shoot first and aim later”.
- At his swearing in Trump promised under oath to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States”. Since then he has challenged three long-accepted provisions. First he challenged the birthright provision that says people born in America shall be considered citizens. Second, he deported innocent (by his own admission) residents without due process. Then he floated the idea that he might seek a third term as president. Words come cheap when truth isn’t relevant.
- He is threatening to fire the Chairman of the Federal Reserve Open Market Committee, Jerome Powell. Trump wants interest rates reduced so his real estate business can borrow and build. Unfortunately our economy–largely because of Trump–cannot sustain a loan rate reduction at this time. Hence the Trump decision that Powell is suddenly the wrong man for the job.
- Trump has abandoned the Ukrainian people in favor of Russia. Instead of seeing Putin for the ruthless dictator he is, Trump is negotiating a deal for the Ukrainian mineral deposits with Russia. The trade off is: Trump will stop all aid to Ukraine if Putin offers a specific amount of minerals after Putin slaughters the civilian population. (We took the high road in both World Wars when Europe was threatened by Germany and Hitler–but this president has no such moral compass.)
- Because of tariffs and other unstable and inconsistent actions Trump has caused the stock market to panic. The Dow-Jones average has lost over 13% of its value in the last 90 days. This amounts to trillions of dollars of equity value and impacts every American either directly (401 (k) plans, bank accounts, etc.) or indirectly (tax revenue shortfalls, unemployment, etc.). The VIX–the volatility index that measures investor confidence–is spiraling downward at a dizzying pace. We may be headed for a depression unless GOP members of Congress find their backbones and remember their commitment to the country and their constituents.
- Trump knows that “controlling the narrative”, as the press terms it, is critical to obscuring his image problem. He knows that the media can tell the truth and rile the voters when he screws up. So Trump is taking steps to exclude “disloyal” journalists or those who may ask probing questions that embarrass him. So he tried to ban the Associated Press from press conferences. The Supreme Court said “No!”. Then he tried to re-arrange press conferences to push honest reporters to the back of the room. And finally, to hide the statistical proof of his failed actions, Trump is firing experienced staff members at the Bureau of Labor Statistics and replacing them with “loyalists’ (spelled s-u-c-k-u-p-s). These replacements will be counted on to provide mis-information to the public. You may pay $10 for a loaf of bread but the Consumer Price Index will show “0” inflation change for the reporting period. He will say “It’s all in your imagination or it’s just a temporary “transition cost”. Whatever lie works.
- Trump threatened several major law firms with the loss of federal revenue unless they pledged support in the hundreds of millions of dollars for his causes. He did this to de-fang capable legal experts from opposing him as he runs rampant through whatever laws he chooses to break. Several law firms have rebuffed him and the courts have sided with them every time.
- The perfect example of how Trump is destroying America–the oil industry. Trump favors big American oil because they are big contributors. He wants to make America independent of foreign oil. So he has authorized widespread drilling permits–even on sacred Native American land, national forest and park areas and the pristine regions of Alaska. “Drill, baby, drill” is his war cry. So the OPEC world in retaliation has announced it will increase oil production. The result is a downward spiral in the price of oil on the world market. Supply far surpasses demand. So we now see low prices at the gas pump. But the glut of oil on the world market is driving the price down to $60 to $62/barrel. At this price American drillers cannot make a profit. So they will curtail operations until drilling again becomes profitable. But, if that ever happens, it will take time to bring all those drilling rigs, pipelines and refineries back on line. In the meantime, Trump will have accomplished total energy DEPENDENCE on foreign oil and made it almost impossible for our domestic oil industry to recover. He has totally devastated our energy industry while destroying the renewable energy potential in sun, wind and water. We will be stuck on whatever world price OPEC chooses. And remember, oil is essential to ALL of American industry. So the entire US economy will be negatively impacted. This is the scenario Trump is rushing to create.
- Now let’s focus on the lesser appreciated accomplishments: (1) he’s pushing to re-name the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and has forced several companies to print their maps accordingly; (2) he has replaced the name of military installations with the original names of the Confederate Generals; (3) he has removed President Obama’s portrait and replaced it with the picture of his assassination attempt; (4) he decided to play golf with the Saudi’s at Mar-A-Lago rather than officiate at the deplaning of four soldiers who were killed in Europe; (5) he took a firm stand on the use of straws, paper vs. plastic; (6) he replaced the Democratic members of the National Labor Relations Board with sycophants sympathetic to the GOP cause. Remember the this board is a final arbiter of labor relations issues. The Democrats are the Labor party–having created this board in the 1940’s. But as of today NO DEMOCRAT sits on this board–thanks to Trump. These and other trivial matters are what your tax dollars are buying. Do you think we’re getting our money’s worth?
We started out by saying this is the end of Trump’s probationary period. Now that you’ve seen a partial listing of his “accomplishments” how do you feel he has “performed” during this 90 day reign? As we said, the actions are indisputable. You’ve seen and heard all that we have recounted. And we haven’t really mentioned all his screw-ups–just the ones that affect the vast majority of citizens (voters). Unless Trump i stopped, he and his menagerie will change all our lives in terrible and irreversible ways.
