By now the situation between president Trump and Greenland has become front page material. Mr. Trump has indicated that he wants to acquire Greenland and is saying that Denmark, the current controlling country, is treating the residents of Greenland poorly. While Denmark stews over this aggressive tone a small but important factor must be recognized. Denmark is part of the NATO alliance. NATO is obligated to defend any member of NATO if and when they are attacked. Never before in history has one NATO country attacked another native country. Until now. If the US were to take military action to secure control of Greenland all NATO countries would be summoned to defend Greenland against the United states. Never before has America declared initiated war against any nation. Our military actions in the past have always been in the name of democracy and freedom for the people we choose to align with. In this situation Mr. Trump has chosen to test the resolve of all NATO countries. He simply wants the mineral rights and possibly a shipping route for Russia across the northern hemisphere. This aggressive behavior is totally unlike any exhibited by America ever in its past. Again the selfish interests of a bully in control will threaten the welfare of another country without any provocation. This is not who we are and we should not condone an unprovoked military action that could result in The US being separated from our NATO allies.
