Sometimes separate headlines spread over a number of days can lose their importance because there are only pieces of a puzzle. We want to bring to your attention several unrelated events that should disturb all of us. These items have to do with our national security and the president’s recent actions.
- In the last two weeks our new leadership in the Homeland Security area through Mr. Trump’s direction have repositioned spy satellites that are intended to protect our borders against unwarranted intrusion. These spy satellites report anything from a weather balloon to an intercontinental ballistic missile to an atomic bomb from entering our airspace without adequate foreknowledge. We cannot confirm but we suspect that Russian activity would not be detected after this repositioning. We were unable to learn what actual repositioning took place, who actually did the repositioning, or why it was necessary to accomplish this repositioning. Whenever the government is not transparent–especially under Trump–everyone should be concerned.
- This week the chief of the NSA and all staff members were relieved of their duties. These are experienced highly qualified individuals who’s work history has no doubt protected all types of threats both foreign and domestic for many years. It is unknown who these individuals will be replaced with. As a result since there are no other individuals in this country who have the depth of the experience of those terminated we can only assume that our defenses will be weakened regardless of who the replacements are. This is a concern that we need to address whenever we have an occasion to contact our congressional representatives.
- By now everyone is aware of the major screw up involving the use of fighter jets against Yemen. The inclusion of a media representative on an unsecured communication system is tantamount to a breach of security bordering on treason. If American jet pilots had died as a result of this stupidity everyone would be asking “where is the expertise that president Trump heralded when he hired Pete Hegseth to be his Secretary of Defense and where is the accountability?
