The Democratic Party needs to find a way to compete and play the games that the Republicans have learned under Trump. It is difficult to imagine how a party like the GOP which has taken the minority position on every major issue of the day and turned it into a victory. The latest show of failure was the decision to run a black woman against Trump. It is hard to imagine how anyone can see white people in the South voting for an African American woman. That failure to recognize has cost the Democrats all 7 swing states for the first time they ever appeared in one column at a major election. This failure has now been exaggerated by the Trump organization and all the chaos they are creating. The latest show of failure was the decision by Chuck Schumer the Minority Democratic leader in the Senate to vote not to shut the government down and to allow the GOP funding mechanism to go forward. His failure to recognize the fact that now the GOP has funding approval and can now pivot to any process they choose to apply that money to has shown again a total failure of strategic decision making on the part of the Democratic Party. As long as this failure continues we will see a continued domination by the Republicans not only in the numbers in Congress but also in stature among the American people. It appears that the Republicans by uniting universally on every ridiculous idea that comes out of Trump’s mouth carry the day while the Democrats bow their heads and walk away disenchanted. This impotence is a disgusting display of leadership. There needs to be a reckoning among the Democratic Party. Maybe it’s time for new leadership and a new spark. Unfortunately the people that are in position now will need to be removed and we’re not sure whether there’s time before the Republican Party eradicates the Democratic Party entirely. And if this happens we will be faced with a one party system and subject to the whims of whatever direction that party chooses to take us in. That was not the goal of the founding fathers who took great pains to assure us of checks and balances through a two party system. We need to reconnect to our roots and we need to have two viable parties that can help each other rule America the way it was intended to happen.
