Trump is concerned that he may be saddled with a National Debt ceiling discussion in January. He worries because (1) he’ll need to devote too much time to a subject he cares nothing about; (2) he may need to resort to working with democrats (ugh!!!) to get what he wants; (3) he doesn’t see the debt as an issue. (he’s always deficit-financed all his real estate deals); (4) he doesn’t understand how a runaway debt can impact the economy; (5) he is already an elected president–what can they do to him if the debt soars?; (6) the size and growth of the debt will not affect his family business; and (7) it may impact the tax law breaks he wants to give his billionaire buddies. In his first term he doubled the national debt size in just 4 years by giving the wealthiest a $3.5 Trillion tax reduction. You may disagree with some of these points–that’s OK. But you know that he has tried–before the inauguration–to eliminate the debt ceiling completely. That should tell you that–at least–some of these points are relevant.
