Did you ever question whether money decides almost everything? Wonder no more. The NFL has changed the football schedule a few times this year to accommodate advertisers. Games that were set to broadcast in prime time have been moved because of the standing of the team–relative to the playoffs–or changed to suit bigger ad markets or for some other monetary reason. We suspect that future games in future seasons will be at “suggested times”. In other words, any game may be changed at any time for any monetary reason. Unfortunately it is impossible to move games around in baseball and basketball because of the number of games and the chaos that might happen with any change. You’ll notice that the College Football Championship tournament this year has been expanded from 4 teams to twelve. Money driven. Next year or the following year–depending on backroom negotiations–the College Basketball “March Madness” tournament will include more teams to increase interest and benefit the ad money and the networks. Of course the teams will share in the loot as well. We’re not saying that money should not be paid. We are saying that squeezing every dime out of the ad income should not result in schedule changes or tournament plans.
