The people have spoken–or, in this case–mis-spoken. Trump has been elected president and the GOP has regained control of Congress. For history buffs, this is a repeat of 1934 Germany when Adolph Hitler was chosen as Chancellor and the Nazi Party controlled the Reichtag–the German Congress.

If Trump carries through on his campaign promises this is some of what we can expect:

  1. All the January 6th rioters who assaulted 140 Capitol police personnel will be released;
  2. The FBI and the CIA will be de-funded;
  3. Ukraine will be delivered to Putin;
  4. Israel will be abandoned to the whims of the Arab state;
  5. An oath of loyalty to Trump will be included in the vetting for all Cabinet members and other Federal officials;
  6. National Security docs will be fair game and secretly available to the highest bidder;
  7. Vengeance will be visited on all Trump opponents;
  8. NATO will be abandoned as a cost-saving and Putin-deference move:
  9. Millions of immigrants will be deported; and,
  10. Sadly, thousands of women who suffer difficult pregnancies will die.

We–at this blog–overestimated the intelligence and integrity of the average American voter. Despite all Trump’s faults and clear evidence of incompetence and criminality, he was preferred over a black woman. This reflects poorly on us as a nation and represents a breakpoint in democracy. The consequences of yesterday’s election will be devastating if Trump carries out his plans. And even worse is the thought that he may die in office and leave us with Vance as president.

When Hilary Clinton lost to Trump in 2016 it was a closer contest. But the deep south has seemingly reverted to its racial bias and knee-jerked against the better choice.

The real test now before us is “can we as a nation withstand the damage Trump-Vance will inflict on us and the world?” Time will tell and let’s just hope irreparable harm isn’t done.

In future postings this blog will monitor and comment on events–good or bad–that the Trump Administration engineers. It’s never healthy to wallow in negativity but maybe–just maybe–we can set the stage for healing in 2028. Stay tuned.
