Instead of taking sides on the Israel-Palestine situation let’s delve into the behind-the-scenes perspective. Some observations are in order. First, students are easily lead. This is not a reflection on IQ. It is a reflection on their family life, environment and need for direction. We will guess that 95% of the protesters don’t know the history of the mid east relationships. They don’t appreciate what citizens from both countries have endured during an uneasy and extended “peace”. In other words, they don’t understand the game before signing up for sides. Second, according to police reports, about half of the rioters are “outsiders” who come to campus, enlist students and lead them into the abyss. Such individuals need to be investigated, charged and jailed. We suggest that anyone arrested who cannot present a student ID Card be tried in court with appropriate penalties upon conviction. Third, THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS THE ANTI-VIETNAM PROTESTS OF THE 70’S. We had “boots-on-the-ground” and were burying our dead daily. This mid east situation is purely a money call. Protesters want us to interfere with another nation as it sorts out its own problems. How would they feel if the United Kingdom told us how to run our elections and demanded that we change or they would cease to be our ally? The really sad part is that these same students may show up again in statistics in 10 years as having chosen the wrong path on drug use, fraud, or some other criminal activity because they’ve shown that they are easily lead astray. The courts need to impress those young people now that criminal behavior is unacceptable in a civilized society and perps will be punished.
