You may remember that Jack Teixeira was the young airman who posted classified information in places where anyone could access the detail. While the government was chastised for allowing someone with his pay grade to possess these docs the real story here is the swiftness of the trial and the sentence. Mr. Texeira was charged with 6 counts of espionage for the transmission of National Defense Information. He was arrested in April, 2023 and during his trial pled guilty in March, 2024. He was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment. Contrast that with Trump stealing and hiding 300 boxes of classified docs with both audio and video proof for all the world to see and hear. Mr. Texeira’s youth was partly blamed for his poor judgement to release the confidential information; also his desire to earn the respect of his peers. What would you blame Trump’s decision on? And–if being found guilty on 6 counts–how much time should Trump serve? Is “no one above the law”? Judge Aileen Cannon disagrees. She’s seen the tapes and heard the recordings. She’s aware of the timing of the election. And she knows she can facilitate Trump not answering for the crimes he’s clearly guilty of. “no one is above the law”…does anyone–even the most radicalized Republican really believe that? Jack Texeira was arrested, tried, convicted and sentenced in less than a year. Trump will probably never go to trial…..equal justice?
