This is what the Republican Party has accomplished in the last few months:
- Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has singlehandedly abandoned the people of Ukraine by refusing to bring the Aid-to-Ukraine funding bill to a vote. Bi-partisan support with nearly half of the Republican Senators–including Leader Mitch McConnell–voting for the bill but Mike Johnson–on orders from Donald Trump, a Putin stooge–has decided that the bill is ridiculous even after the Dems agreed to the GOP Immigration features in the bill. So Ukraine and probably our NATO allies will lose to the Russians because of Trump–the front runner for the GOP Presidential nomination. Now we will face a bigger threat as Putin re-assembles the old USSR Soviet bloc countries. And all the funding we’ve sent along with the European alliance will be wasted in a losing effort. There is little doubt whose side Trump is on. We think the Trump Moscow Tower is close to becoming a reality. Kinda’ makes you look forward to a Trump reign?
- We’re facing another government shutdown–more chaos at the hands of Trump. Any disruption of government is considered a plus for Trump. Federal employees including active service members will see a halt to their paychecks. Trump has directed the MAGA morons to shut it down because he believes that this move will somehow be blamed on Biden…small minds at work.
- The immigration solution the GOP asked for and was agreed to by the Dems is on hold. Trump doesn’t want the problem solved because he wants to hold the problem over President Biden’s head during the campaign. But, by now, everyone knows his plan and they blame him. This should not only cost Trump voter support but also cause immense misery among all the people trying to seek asylum at the border. We wonder if Trump orchestrated this delay with GOP Governor Abbott of Texas. The Governor is between a rock and a hard place here. If he gripes–he knows who to blame. And if he allows the status quo–he must accept the building pressure at his doorstep. What a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive…
- The Biden star impeachment witness is going to jail. The GOP counted on and highly touted Smirnoff as the “credible witness” to Joe Biden taking a $5 million bribe. That was a loser play from the start. The GOP simply wanted to try to sink Biden to Trump’s level--as if that were possible. No one could be lower than the Donald–and everyone including the GOP “suck-ups” know it. What will they think up next?
- President Biden has found a way–by executive order–to forgive some student debt. This program had been tried some months ago but the GOP-dominated US Supreme Court voided it. Apart from relieving the younger generation from a 10 year anchor to their savings efforts, Biden has put billions of dollars of spending power back into the economy. These freed-up dollars can now be spent on autos, homes, appliances, and maybe even help to set up more young families households. The impact on the economy will be small but it will improve the standard of living for many low and middle class individuals. That’s a far cry from the $3.5 TRILLION tax break Trump gave his super-wealthy buddies as he doubled our national debt (in 4 years).
- The most ridiculous decision–at least until the US Supreme Court gets a chance to tell us their thoughts–is the recent Alabama Supreme Court calling frozen embryos “minor children”. It would be laughable if it wasn’t so sad. Flower seeds are just seeds until they’re planted and cultivated. Metal parts in a warehouse are just metal parts until they’re assembled into a car. Acorns are just acorns until they sprout into oak trees. And frozen embryos are just frozen embryos with the potential to become children–but not until they’re planted in the womb. When this court decision is combined with the Alabama anti-abortion scenario it is easy to image why the In vitro fertilization industry will not survive in Alabama. A significant number of failed pregnancies occur with IVF (a very expensive process) that will put the health of the Mother at risk and medical care providers will panic–not knowing how to care for their patients without losing their medical licenses, being fined and maybe facing jail time. Does that sound like a family-friendly environment? All of this results from the overturn of Roe v. Wade.
- And finally, Trump is now threatening the Federal Open Market Committee Chairman, Mr. Powell. Trump hired Powell and constantly pressured him to lower interest rates when he was in the White House so that his real estate business could get cheap credit. But now that rate cuts are called for because Bidenomics seems to be working, Trump is getting the word out that–if elected–he would replace Powell. Another self-serving chaotic attempt to disrupt the solid economy Trump fears. We wonder how long it will be before Donald starts using name-calling for Mr. Powell. That’s what every other 4th grade mentality would do.
