Most mass shootings reflect on the huge number of guns sold in America and the nut jobs who decide to destroy as many lies as possible. We hope that this violence trend will run its course and die out (no pun intended) in this generation. The hope seems to be that–once guns are a fact of American life–the frequency of mass shootings may decrease. But now we are learning that the gun manufacturers are one step ahead of us. They are now marketing weapons of mass destruction to kids. Marketing reps call willing minors “kidfluencers” because they enthusiastically embrace the training and firing of AR -15’s, AK 47’s and all other guns. They learn how to maintain weapons for maximum safety and fire power. They visit target ranges on a regular basis. In short they are being trained to buy and use killing machines as the next generation of adults. The sad but true fact is that mass murders will be with us until America and its politicians face up to the reality that the vast majority of us do not want to live in constant fear. Even armed police personnel seem to be afraid to stop speeding motorists because they know that the odds are he/she is armed and maybe with more fire power that the police. Drive the local expressway and see it for yourself. We think a solution is easy: Gun makers should be held accountable for every mass shooting just like cigarette makers and opioid distributors have been penalized for exposing society to unnecessary danger. If gun makers were made to pay for damages we’d have fewer weapons of mass destruction in the hands of kids–is that too much to ask?
