The legendary football coach of the University of Alabama, Bear Bryant, always wore a herringbone fedora. It was an essential part of his game day attire. Now we have Tommy Tuberville, a former Alabama football coach in Congress. But his hat is a dunce cap. By holding up several hundred military promotions he has singlehandedly earned “moron of the year” honors. Let’s consider the impact: (1) it affects military readiness; (2) it alienates voters who are in the military or sympathetic to the impact; (3) it alienates Alabama voters who elected him to Congress; (4) it almost guarantees that the GOP will NOT gain a majority in the Senate in 2024; (5) it energizes all the pro-choice voters against the GOP across the country to vote for Democratic candidates; and, (6) it makes America look amateurish to our allies around the world. Recall that all this stupidity was based on his obstruction of abortion/healthcare to female members of the armed services. So, Senator Tuberville, was all the commotion worth it just to aid in the Trump strategy to disrupt the Biden agenda any way you can? At what point did Trump publicly support your position while the screws were being turned on you by your GOP fellow Congress members? Answer: Trump did not support Tommy because he knew he could only lose by doing so. It was OK if Tommy looked foolish but Donald wasn’t about to throw away his image on such a small skirmish even to support a Republican-under-fire. To save face Tommy is slowly relenting–making you wonder how serious he was on the issue to start with. Tommy doesn’t care about abortion rules–he just wants to keep in the Donald’s warm glow as he creates chaos–the GOP theme.
