If we hear that phrase one more time–well, let’s hope the hypocrisy of that statement sinks itself sooner than later. Let’s look at reality again:
- The Supreme Court (becoming less so daily) has three perjured justices, Kavanaugh, Barrett and Alioto. When vetted by a Congressional Committe under oath they clearly indicated a reluctance to challenge Roe v. Wade. Upon seating these three they abdicated that position and overturned Roe. Then they accepted gifts–especially Clarence Thomas–without reporting them. The reporting requirement is one of their few self-governing guidelines and they failed to report several millions of dollars in gifts–all from GOP mega-donors. Even Chief Justice Roberts didn’t recuse himself from cases that were argued by lawyers who were positioned by his spouse. Beyond the impropriety of accepting gifts, why aren’t there tax evasion issues? If anyone receives a million dollars from a benefactor they must pay tax on that million—what, if anything, happened here?
- Donald Trump has been threatening judges, law clerks, prosecuting attorneys, district attorneys and everyone by his statement “If you come after me, I’ll come after you”. ANY OTHER DEFENDANT IN ANY OTHER LEGAL PROCEEDING WOULD BE GAGGED AND POSSIBLY JAILED FOR DOING FAR LESS THAT TRUMP HAS ALREADY DONE. AND HIS THREATS HAVE RESULTED IN ACTUAL VIOLENCE, THE NEED FOR ENHANCED SECURITY, COURT TRIAL PROTOCOL CHANGES AND OTHER IMPACTS.
- Let’s talk Steve Bannon…convicted during the trump presidency, he was pardoned from crimes he admitted he was guilty of. Subsequent to the Trump presidency he was convicted of contempt of Congress (2 counts) and sentenced to 6 months in jail and a $6,000 fine. Because he appealed the decision HE WAS ALLOWED TO BE FREE WHILE THE APPEAL WAS BEING PROCESSED THROUGH THE COURTS. This is a man who clearly knew of the US Capitol attack BEFORE it happened and we are allowing him the freedom to spew more inciteful words after being convicted??? Can you imagine Al Capone being allowed to roam Chicago after being convicted of tax evasion–because he appealed the decision?
After reading this can you still believe “no one is above the law”? If so, we want to sell you some swamp land in Florida and a bridge over the Atlantic. We are slowly but surely watching our legal system erode by bending over backwards to protect First Amendment rights. But that kind of bending only succeeds so far….eventually you fall and that’s where we are right now.
