After months of constantly opposing ANYTHING PROPOSED BY THE DEMOCRATS AND BEING “ALL IN” WHEN SUPPORTING TRUMP the GOP now finds itself in pieces. The vacant Speaker position is the clear focal point. MAGA Right Wingers want a say in choosing the McCarthy replacement. But they undoubtedly want to keep their tentacles wrapped around anyone they offer to support. Unfortunately, the Non-MAGA GOP group is split on Scalise, Jordan or even McCarthy. Apparently, a number of the Non-MAGA’s have different favorites among those three candidates. And that means a long negotiation within the Republican Party to reach the 218 votes needed to elect a new Speaker. Add to that simmering pot the growing GOP support to remove George Santos after his 23 charge indictment and the anti-Gaetz sentiment among House Reps and you have an almost impossible situation. We predict that a Speaker will not be chosen before the temporary budget agreement expires in mid-November. This really complicates matters because all the fractured GOP factions will disagree on whether to fund the government or force technical default. That means the GOP chaos spills over to the Dem side of the aisle and threatens many families with empty wallets as Christmas approaches…all this drama going into 2024 and the campaign. And we haven’t even mentioned the Trump multiple legal entanglements as further GOP complications. Will the GOP unite enough to settle the Speaker issue, resolve the Santos and Gaetz problems and set up a Plan “B” on the very real possibility that Trump may be ineligible to run for President? Clearly a lot of compromise needs to happen very quickly. As to the Speaker selection process, buckle up–this may take a while. And remember, the Speaker is the third individual in the succession line for President. We hope the GOP sees that urgency and solves its problems sooner than later. One last point: the 49% of voters who call themselves “Independents” are watching all this bedlam unfold. We doubt internal chaos in the Republican Party encourages confidence in those Independents. If the GOP can’t manage itself–how can we expect it to run the country?
