As we close out the summer season our attention begins to turn to the month of September. The month’s name, September, is actually from the Latin “septem” meaning “seven”. So why is the ninth month of our year named after the Latin word for “seven”? The answer is that the early Roman calendar regarded what we call September as the calendar’s seventh month. No mystery. Also, FYI, September is Happy Cat Month.

Here are some September thoughts:

  • LABOR DAY – always the first Monday of the month
  • SEPTEMBER 11 – Patriot Day in recognition and remembrance of the 2001 terrorists attacks
  • SEPTEMBER 11 – National Hug Your Hound Day
  • GRANDPARENTS DAY – always the second Monday in the month (9/11 in 2023)
  • SEPTEMBER 13 – Kids Take Over the Kitchen Day
  • SEPTEMBER 15 – the start of Rosh Hashanah marking the beginning of the new year
  • SEPTEMBER 17 – CONSTITUTION DAY celebrating the adoption of the US Constitution on 9/17/1787
  • SEPTEMBER 19 – International Talk Like a Pirate Day
  • SEPTEMBER 21 – International Day of Peace
  • SEPTEMBER 23 – first day of autumn
  • SEPTEMBER 24 – National Punctuation Day
  • SEPTEMBER 26 – Johnny Appleseed Day named for John Chapman

FYI there are many other “fun” days in the month of September including Milkshake day, salami day, eat an extra dessert day, teddy bear day, no rhyme or reason day, love note day, guacamole day and many more.

We will include a bit of humor when we post by mid September. Please stay tuned and thanks for reading.
