If you think this is a bit much–read on….Last week Trump, the leading GOP presidential candidate announced that he was his followers “retribution”. Further, he said that he would basically gut the FBI, the Department of Justice and anyone else who had opposed him since his failed 2020 bid. He would pardon the nut jobs that attacked the US Capitol on his watch (January 6, 2021). He would place his cronies in key government roles regardless of qualifications or experience.
Now, step back in time for a moment…In the late 1920’s Adolph Hitler ran an unsuccessful campaign for the Chancellor position in Germany. But by 1932 the Nazi Party was the dominant Party in the Reichtag–the German equivalent of the US Congress. By spouting nationalism (Like “Make Germany Great Again”?) Hitler found favor with German voters. In 1932 Hitler won his Chancellorship. In 1934 he engineered the “Enabling Act” which was to last only four years while he made certain (but drastic) changes in the structure of the German government. The first action Hitler took was to abolish and disband the Reichtag–the US Congress equivalent so that after four years THERE WAS NO GOVERNING BODY TO RECLAIM CONTROL. From that point on Hitler built a war machine and five years later he started World War II by invading Poland.
Is it a coincidence that the Hitler path looks like a GOP GPS route? Trump wants expanded presidential powers–so did Hitler. He wants to change the structure of the government–so did Hitler. He wants to purge the FBI and other law enforcement agencies–so did Hitler when he established the SS and Gestapo. If you allow yourself to believe historical facts (look them up), the parallels are not accidental. The Hitler path worked and the world shuddered. Are we going to re-visit the past in 2024? With all the threats to our planet (climate change, nuclear weapons in many hands, pandemic possibilities, terrorism, etc.) we’re no longer playing a localized game. This is a global concern because a megalomaniac without restraint has the potential to destroy without mercy. We sincerely hope that there are enough common sense voters who will understand the tremendous risk and vote accordingly.
