- Does anyone else find it ironic that Jenny Craig is going out of business at a time when over 40% of Americans are considered obese? Maybe the government (Federal/State/Local) should offer a subsidy as an incentive to “JC” to stay afloat while we encourage the population to lose weight. Maybe their business failure says: (1) those of us who are obese don’t want help, or (2) it’s wrong to body shame people for being overweight so I don’t care what carrying extra pounds does to my morbidity or mortality. We hope they’re not waiting for a National Health Plan to compensate for their bad eating habits. Yes, some people have physical issues that cause weight gain and they get a pass from criticism. But the vast majority just don’t seem to care.
- It is difficult to understand how intelligent people cannot separate themselves from the Republican Party. The former president will be indicted and convicted of multiple felonies. He’s been convicted as a sex abuser already. Most of his “staff” has been convicted of something. Only his presidential pardon powers kept several out of jail–but they admitted guilt. Then we have the case of George Santos who openly admitted he lied about EVERYTHING IN HIS BACKGROUND TO GET ELECTED. He too is being investigated on 13 separate charges. And why isn’t Steve Bannon in jail yet? He was convicted. And what about Peter Navarro, Rudy Giuliani, and others? They admitted to formulating a strategy to present fake electors in an attempt to obstruct a Federal process. That is a felony. Why is justice delayed for these criminals? Why do some seemingly intelligent people vote GOP?
- The world has clearly surrendered reason. In Texas it’s Ok to enter a restaurant, library, super market or other retail establishment while carrying an assault rifle–but don’t you dare smoke. Smoking may be harmful to your health and secondary smoke is offensive to other shoppers. But toting a weapon of mass destruction is ok. Sounds reasonable for Texas where NRA money flows to everyone labelled GOP. Texas has the highest number of mass shootings deaths in the country and no one sees a connection to open gun access and carry. Our hearts go out to Uvalde and all those parents whose kids will only be a memory. Maybe if a GOP person loses someone it will get their attention.
- The mark of any civilized society is directly related to abiding to the law. Whether we’re talking criminal activities, tax laws, traffic regulations or any other rules that define the organization of our daily behaviors. So we ask you to consider driving habits. Have you noticed how few traffic laws are being followed? Try expressway driving. Unless you drive at least 15 MPH over the posted Speed Limit you are a hazard to others. Stop Signs are now regarded as “Pause Signs”. Traffic lights get no respect…when approaching drivers see “red” but no crossing traffic they simply ignore the light. Our suggestion…since all road rules are intended to support safety all geographic areas should hire enough police officers to patrol the roads. Traffic tickets should be distributed freely to all transgressors with a doubling for every 30 days they are delinquent from payment. We believe the result will be a huge boost in local funds in the short run; and a much safer road in the near term. Can anyone seriously argue with those results?
- The marks against Social Media continue to tally. Montana has banned TikTok entirely. Recently a bullying situation resulted in court action. We already know about the bad actors who build bombs, organize terrorist activities and generally abuse the positive aspects of communication in the electronic world. The US Surgeon General has issued an advisory cautioning against the unsupervised use of Social Media. We’ve said it before…if you can’t control misuse, you must eliminate the problem. What major catastrophe must occur before we see the danger?
