In 1870 the US Constitution was amended to allow former slaves to vote (15th Amendment, ratified February 26, 1870). FIFTY YEARS LATER the US Constitution was amended to allow women the right to vote (19th Amendment, ratified August 18, 1920). Yes it’s true that slaves were challenged when they tried to vote by literacy tests, poll taxes and other phony local ploys–but they were recognized as having the vote 50 years before the women for whom many worked as slaves were accorded the same rights. And now we talk abortion. The same male-dominated Federal system that took 50 years to “equalize” the voting issue has now attempted to decide what is best for that same group of Americans. Is it any wonder that women are incensed that males choose to abuse fair treatment for abortion? Let’s hope we don’t need to wait another 50 years after the Dobbs decision to realize how ridiculously the abortion issue was handled way back in 2023.
