Let’s just focus on the hush money discussion. Yes, Michael Cohen is a convicted felon and liar. And yes, there is ample evidence that Trump had sexual relations with Stormy Daniels. But recently a supposed objective witness was brought into Grand Jury proceedings in New York. A lawyer, Mr. Costello, said that Mr. Cohen–on his own and without Trump direction–decided to take out a Home Equity Loan to pay Ms. Daniels $130,000 to buy her silence during the 2016 election campaign. Mr. Costello indicated that Mr. Cohen did not want his own wife to find out about the $130,000 so he took out the HELO. This whole line of remarks is by any common sense account ludicrous. First, Cohen would not know whether Ms. Daniels actually had an affair with Trump unless Trump confirmed it. And if Trump confirmed it why would Cohen take it upon himself to pay her off unless Trump felt exposure (again, pardon the choice of words). And why would Cohen care if his own wife discovered the $130,000 payment if it was intended to protect Trump–and not to protect Cohen? There is NO LOGICAL sequence to even suggest that Mr. Cohen would “go rogue” and pay her off without Trump confirming the problem, agreeing to make the payment and then hiding it as “legal expenses”. Cohen may have been proven a liar in the past but common sense about who had something to lose in this situation pretty clearly confirms what must have happened. When the stakes are this big people reach for any straw for salvation–but reality, like water–seeks its own level. Trump had an election to win but Cohen had nothing to lose. You be the judge.
