• The train wreck in East Palestine Ohio is noteworthy on three counts: (1) it shows a management failure that should result in the employment termination (and possibly prosecution) of one or more individuals; (2) it demonstrates how little faith the average American has in its government to successfully deal with catastrophes; and (3) it brings into question the overall issue of train safety. Millions of tons of hazardous materials and paying customers are boarded daily; are trains safe? Are you as willing to travel by train now as you might have been a year ago?
  • The professional golf world saga–the Professional Golfers Association of America (PGA)–has now been joined by the Royal and Ancient Golf Association in Great Britain as caving into the TV advertisers. Just as the US PGA is allowing former Masters tournament champs who are now on the Saudi Tour to play in the Masters–the Royal and Ancient group is allowing them to play in the British Open in July (“THE OPEN”). It appears that the Saudi tour will co-exist for a while or until the older American and British tours can figure a way to “do them in”. Last year the Saudi Wealth Fund which bankrolls the Saudi tour made little profit—if any. But this year the CW TV network has begun televising Saudi events. The “who-pays-who” issue is unclear…kinda like “let’s see what develops and then we’ll talk money”. Stay tuned.
  • Have we all forgotten about the unrecovered balloons that cost taxpayers millions of dollars to shoot down? All of a sudden, these balloons fell not only off the radar but completely off the pages of every newspaper in the country. All we hear is that they fell in difficult to reach areas. End of story. Well–we’d like to hear more. It is impossible to explain what those balloons were doing unless and until we recover at least one of them. We think all citizens should push for an explanation based on fact. We’re concerned that dropping the issue so quickly-with zero follow-up–is a bad sign. Don’t you want to know?
  • We’re really unhappy about the reporting on President Biden’s recent morale-building visit to Ukraine. The local Gannett paper headlined that he “sneaked into” Ukraine for a surprise visit. FYI, the President of the United States does not sneak. George W. Bush wasn’t described as “sneaking into Irag” while missiles were being fired over his head during Operation Desert Storm. So why does the local paper portray Biden as a “sneaker”?
  • The social media debacle continues to grow. Now the Federal Government has banned TikTok from all electronic devices because the information gathering capabilities of TikTok could be used to profile American attitudes or used for some less-than-honorable purpose. How can banning a weapon be seen as dangerous enough to ban it from the government devices AND be allowed to exist everywhere else? Either it’s OK everywhere or it isn’t. How tough is that to follow?
  • Another clunker for the Supreme Court…a baker in Denver lost his appeal to deny supplying a cake intended to celebrate a transgender transition. The question was: did a Colorado state law banning refusal to provide services due to sexual characteristics override the business owners right to express their religion? The Supreme Court said “bake the cake and give it to them”–in so many words. We would ask the question differently: If a hospital was asked to provide an elective abortion in a pro-abortion state and refused–would the woman have the right to ask the Supreme Court to demand that she be allowed to have the abortion in the hospital of her choice? If the hospital is a Catholic hospital and the hospital refused–can the state REQUIRE it to comply? Using the baker example ???????
  • The recent Murdaugh murder trial caught our attention but not for the usual reason. TV film footage showed Murdaugh being brought from jail to the courthouse daily in shackles and handcuffs while he was being tried–before his guilt was decided by the jury. Conversely, Steve Bannon was CONVICTED AND SENTENCED several months ago and he’s still not only free to roam but also to continue the same BS he spouted that got him into trouble in the first place. Is this a great country or what? How can we respect a system that refuses to carry out court decisions and allows the perp to continue his crimes?
