A hodgepodge of disconnected comments:
- For all those favoring a National Health Insurance Plan (take note Bernie Sanders), Canada’s prime Minister Trudeau has recently gone public with his comments that the Canadian National Health system is failing to deliver. Access to doctors and hospitals is declining rapidly with lengthy Emergency Room wait times. And costs are escalating much faster than anticipated. The Federal Government was asked to cover 35% of health care costs in the provinces but Trudeau has promised to provide only 24%. A little known fact is that 80% of all elective surgeries on Canadian citizens are performed within 100 miles of the US-Canadian border–ON THIS SIDE!!! Canadians have waited excessively for elective surgeries; and the cost is an additional drag on the National Plan.
- George Santos, Republican member of the House of Representatives…are Republicans proud to face the problems of our nation with his help? When an admitted serial liar is seated in Congress without rebuke and removal by his own Party we see a new and obvious low for the GOP. His reputation will hang around his neck and the neck of ANY Republican House member who–in ANY way–works with him. Let’s hope the investigation into his finances can prove criminal activity because grossly unethical conduct is not enough to solve the problem….and they wanted to “hang Mike Pence”?
- Re social media, more state governments and schools have acted to ban TikTok. The Chinese-based platform continues to gather information for whatever purposes. Stay tuned as the “cold war” between the US and China escalates. It may happen that the problem will be resolved strictly as a result of political issues–like the independence of Taiwan.
- The National Football League is coming under fire because former players claims for medical care are being denied. It appears that former players are trying to make the case that head injuries and other impairments happened as a result of their playing days. Apparently, the NFL Office refuses to accept this logic. It is no doubt difficult to prove a condition after several years of off-field inactivity. But the players have–in some cases–the weight of past court decisions on their side. We wonder why the Worker’s Compensation laws do not address “delayed” symptoms that develop later in life (in any job) that impact the individual’s ability to work. Certainly black lung disease and other health problems were proven to be the result of prolonged mine exposure. Why is this situation not given the benefit of the doubt…especially if the player was healthy enough to play football and did not engage in any physically demanding job since his football playing days ended?
- The state of Ohio (You know, the GOP and Governor DeWeeny) are copping to the money interests in the state AGAIN. In our last post we told you that DeWeeny suddenly opened up the state to gambling in all its forms–right after he accepted a $1 million campaign donation from gambling interests. Now the state–in an effort to “normalize” marijuana business development in the state–is planning to reduce/remove penalties for driving under the influence. Senate Bill 26 says that a driver who tests positive for MJ in his/her system can still prove they are not impaired and therefore not guilty of Operating a Vehicle under the Influence. Question: why did they do something that resulted in them being pulled over? Could it be that MJ was, at least, a contributing factor? Or are we to believe that the driver simply disregarded a rule of the road and made the judgement that–even with MJ in my system–I can drive responsibly? Welcome the MJ trade to Ohio. It must make Mothers against Drunk Driving proud to see the state add fuel to their fire.
- Finally, a wooly worm update. We told you in a previous post that the wooly worm winter weather (whew!!!!) prediction was for a milder than average winter. So far–in our neck of the woods–that has been the case. Our average temp in January usually hovers around 30 degrees–last year it was actually 29. This year we averaged 42 degrees. From what we read around the country many areas are experiencing higher temps. Maybe global warming…maybe just a fluke. So much for that rodent in Pennsylvania…go back in your warmer-than-average hole!!!
